Starting Uni and Benefit Changes

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help or advise please? I’m a single parent of twins and have been in receipt of both child benefit and child tax credit for many years.

My kids are now 18 and are starting Uni in September, what will happen with those benefits? I’m guessing they’ll just stop which is terrifying because I have no idea how I will pay the bills.

Anyone been through this? What on earth did you do?

Child benefit and Child Tax Credit will end on 31 August.

Easier said than done but if you can’t afford your bills without these benefits you’ll either have to increase your income or decrease your outgoings.

I understand that I obviously won’t be paying for school travel or food etc because they’ll be getting Uni grants, and I guess the food shop will decrease, plus the power bills but still, I’m panicking a bit.

Are you in work? I'm in a similar position with the loss of a benefit when my son is 16 in July.
I have already increased my working hours and reduced some outgoings in anticipation.
They really are your options, some combination of increasing income and reducing outgoings.

Thanks guys, I’m going to write everything down and start from there. The kids will be getting a grant so i think it’s reasonable that they will now pay their own phone bills etc. I’ll work it out.
