My son said he wants a job to earn a little money to save!!

I suggested that my 14 year old works four hours a week in a cafe after seeing a vacancy ..... she was mortified 🤷🏻‍♀️.

My 14 nearly 15 yr old son works 6 hours a fortnight. He’s saving his wages for a new computer he wants. I’m really proud of him.
As long as his school work doesn’t suffer I’m all for it.

When I was in retail we had a Saturday boy who helped on the tills...20 years ago, mind...

We've found it basically impossible for someone under 16 to get work. But maybe you are in a place with more casual jobs available?

If he wants it why is he asking you? I'd suggest food markets, hotels with restaurants etc unless he has a clear aim

my 14 yo DS has a paper round

He earns £20 a week.

But that does involve leaving the house at 7am everyday - 7 days a week

He's loaded for a 14 yo, and its done him the world of good

Mine worked in a music shop (guitars) on Saturdays at fourteen, plus school holidays and when he left school. He did that for a long time, thoroughly enjoyed and got a lot out of it.

Mine did shelf stacking in the local shop for a few years from 14. He used to chat to customers and take their bags for them.

He ended up stock taking and buying before he was 17. He did couple of hours after school and if he was called in at the weekend.

Our local shop proprietor is a local hero in so many ways!

Waiter/waitress can be tricky, as when my son did it he was often kept late. On a school night too, so I had to intervene.

Places like Morrison's won't take them under 16, best bet is independent businesses like cafes/small shops.

My DS14 has a Saturday job at a cafe - taking orders, cleaning jobs, washing up. Works 3.5 hours which is enough. Has done wonders for his confidence.
