My DS's father has recently started going to church and has drastically reduced the time he spends with ds. He pops up occasionally and collects him from school. DS has started talking about alternative theories for historical events, such as the pyramids being built for a race of giants, that were then eaten alive!!! When I ask DS where he has heard all of this stuff, he tells me his Dad told him or showed him videos or articles online. I am concerned as my understanding of scientology is that they slowly draw people in by making them believe the alternative theories and doubt their own lives and the people who care for them. I feel powerless to stop this, my son is starting believe this stuff, when only a few weeks ago, he told me it was a load of rubbish. Any advice gratefully appreciated.

That is worrying. At 14 he's old enough to watch some of the documentaries on Scientology that expose it as the dangerous cult that it is.

If he's not too far into it yet, one of these might give him pause. Knowing that their modus operandi is to brainwash people into distrusting and shunning the people who love them most, might go some way toward helping him recognise if that starts to happen.

What a worry, OP. I'm sorry. I think you have to be ruthless here and not try to preserve / encourage the relationship with his dad if it's going to mean ds being exposed to Scientology.

Do you know what church DS's father is going to? What you've described doesn't sound anything like Scientology to me.

It sounds more like conspiracy theory shit to me.

I am not sure what church he goes to. I don't know for certain that it is scientology but I am concerned as my ex has cut everyone from his life apart from his girlfriend who has got him involved in what seems to be a cult or something similar. When my son starts talking about it, it makes me feel sick and my skin crawl!

It sounds nuts, and worrying, but it doesn't sound remotely like Scientology. They do have bizarre and crazy origin myths, but they are closely held secrets and if you are actually involved in scientology, you are supposed to progress very expensively deep into it before learning about Xemu.

It sounds quite worrying, but you should find out more about what is going on.

It sounds super cultish. What type of contact does DS have? I certainly wouldn't him spending long periods of time with DF if he's being drawn in so quickly.

I would try to find out what church/organisation that DS's father is involved if you can. It doesn't sound like Scientology to me, but there are plenty of other cults out there, some of them worse than Scientology.

Scientology have fronts, it's worth pointing out, notably Narconon and Criminon, which occasionally manage to weasel their ways into schools. Remember those names.

It's difficult to find out what he is involved in as he refuses to have any contact with me. He won't even inform me when he intends to have contact with our son. The last time I saw him, he looked weird, his eyes creeped me out. I don't want him anywhere my son, but he meets him after school when he knows I will be at work. He was a control freak when we were together but this has gone beyond anything I could ever have imagined!

Do you have any contact with your Ds's father's family who you could raise your concerns with? If not other than debunking such rubbish with your son carefully I would suggest that you look at access through legal channels, they have the power to impose supervision. Trying to contact relatives or close friends is the better first approach though.

He has cut his family out of his life. I have contact with his mum, but she is as baffled as me. I will be seeking legal advice and have been referred to social services, due to my son being physically aggressive toward me, I will raise my concerns with them aswell. Thank you everyone for your advice and the links.
