Got my DSs an electric razor when they were about 15/16 because I could see the peach fuzz on the top lip. The didn't use it very often and at 19 & 17 can't say that they shave that often - once a month.

But I also work in a local high school and we've had 15/16yr olds with lots of facial hair - beards almost.

Hope that helps.

DS is 12(!) and has a little caterpillar on his upper lip - for at least the last 6 months. DH bought him some shaving gel and those disposable razors and showed him what to do. Great dad/son moment. DS well pleased with result - as indeed we all are......

Eldest got rid of his top lip fuzz at about 13 1/2 - he now needs to shave once or twice a week (is now 16).

Youngest is 14 and fairer so has only just lost his top lip fuzz - 2 weeks later it needs doing again!

Eldest didn't get on with the electric razor as for a while the fuzz was too soft - he prefers a proper razor.

I got DS a packet of disposables when he was about 12 or 13, told him not to swipe the razors sideways across his face, and he has never looked back. There are youtube videos showing how to do it.

I know several 12yo boys with obvious top lip fuzz. Even DH commented because one set of parents he thinks are too bohemian to care or approve of doing anything about it, but he's afraid that the boy will get laughed at by peers. It's all very awkward!

I could weep at the thought of my soft squishy little 4 year old DS needing to shave one day. Until reading this thread it hadn't crossed my mind. Sniff.

my ds1 is 12 and we are just encountering this! he has a little bit of fluff on his top lip, not hugely noticeable but def almost enough to shave! i suggested this to him and he was horrified and asked if he could snip it with nail scissors, lol! Grin a friend of mine said her son at the same age used hair removal cream, so i may suggest that to him :)

My DS1 is 15 and has very dark hair and skin ( and long thick eyelashes to make you weep ). He has been shaving his top lip every week or so since he was about 13. He looks a bit grubby looking when it's fuzzy.

He does it in the shower and I asked him one day why he wasn't using the shaving gel I'd bought him. He replied he was and reached into the shower and produced a tube of Nair! Grin He did say he wondered why I'd got him one that smelt weird.

I've also encouraged him to pluck his unibrow.

Electric shaver.

DS has been shaving his tache since he got whispy old lady chin hairs to mat at just 13. Ge does it maybe 2x week I think.

I gave him wet shaving kit for his 16th birthday in Jab but he hasn't braved it yet! It was kind of a celebration of the fact that his acne has almost gone after the roaccutane. He couldn't have gone near his face with a razor blade till a few months ago!

DS16 has one of those battery operated razors, he uses it as and when, for about a year now.

Does your DS hate them maryz?

By about the age of seven, ds1 would say in a bored tone, "yes, I do have long eyelashes and no, you can't borrow them" to women who commented on them Blush

I too am very Envy of his eyelashes, not so much the length but the thickness, mine are definitely thinning.

Ohbugrit, it is a funny feeling, I see him with his hairy face and hairy legs, all long and lean and he's as tall as me but in my head and my heart he is still my chubby cheeked curly haired little boy who held my hand. I really am beginning to understand that my mum does actually mean it when she says to me you will always be my baby.

DS2 who is 12 is still hair free practically everywhere. Only his legs are getting hairier.
DS1 who is 15 and half is really hairy except on his face where it is only in their last couple of months has started to get very fair fuzz .

My ds missed the school bus today (30 miles away. Highlands, very isolated but as he's working hard on highers at the moment, didn't want to miss a day so he decided to hitch.
He got a lift right away for the first 10 miles and then walked till he finally got a lift at 10.30 am.
I don't drive, so was on the mobile every 5 minutes, he did finally get a lift and he got a round of applause when he arrived in chemistry.Grin.
It's taught him something, though I'm still not sure what.
It's taught me to finally get a battery for my alarm clock.

Sad I know maryz.

I'm lucky to have ds3 who is only 15 months, and he looks a lot like ds1 as s baby, so I'm still getting lots of baby cuddles and thigh squeezing deliberately ignores the sleepless nights and nappies

Your DD sounds lovely Smile I look ill without mascara and hate having panda eyes in the morning, she's so lucky.

I think I may have to go and give my big hairy baby a cwtch now, this thread has made me feel all fuzzy (ha!) towards him.

The mention of hairy legs reminds me of a day last summer when DS surfaced late and staggered bleary eyed to the bathroom feeling his chin and declaring that he hoped no-one had been using his razors because he needed to shave. DD4 looked disgustedly at his legs and said 'Oh yes you do. I can't even see your legs through all that hair.'
