Surrogacy

Thinking of surrogacy...

I was told last year that I have Asherman's Syndrome. Basically scarring in my uterine lining. I think it is also blocking my fallopian tubes but haven't had extensive diagnostic tests yet. Generally speaking, AS is extremely rare and there are only a handful of specialists in the world able to treat it. It can be treated on the NHS but as they don't see a lot of cases and it is a very delicate procedure, inexperienced doctors have been known to actually make the scarring worse. Private treatment will cost upwards of £10,000 which is money we simply don't have. I have been pregnant before (very lucky to have a 9 year old daughter) but without a healthy uterus, I cannot carry a baby again.

I've been thinking a lot about surrogacy and just wondered if anyone could give me basic information? If I went down this route, I would ideally want a baby of my own so IVF would play a role. But I don't know how expensive IVF is and obviously I'm aware that it doesn't always work the first time, maybe not even the fifth time. Also, in the likely event that nobody I know personally would be willing to give up their womb for 9 months to grow me a baby, how do you go about finding a surrogate?

I've not made any definite decisions yet and obviously if IVF/surrogacy is going to cost about the same as private treatment for me AS then it would make more sense for me to get treatment instead (by taking out a very hefty loan most likely). Just looking at my options at the moment really so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,
I have also been thinking about surrogacy. Thanks for the helpful comments. Choosing a surrogate is also something I would really like to have, but it seems you cannot have this abroad? Do people easily agree to being surrogates? I mean, can you go talk to your neighbor about it or it must be someone close?

My suggestions to you Jennifer are to go away, get some morals and stop spamming boards where vulnerable people with actual fertility problems post.

You're certainly making the clinic you're trying to advertise look as bad as it possibly could.

I suggest you to go for the AS treatment. If the lining in the uterus is too damaged, then IVF will not help you. So it's better first to go for private treatment. One more thing I want to discuss here is you need to consult with your specialist. Because if AS can't be treated then the only option for you is surrogacy with IVF. As you asked about the expenses, here is an estimate for it. Total surrogacy treatment cost is around $50K to $80k depending upon the country chosen. Surrogacy cost is different with IVF process and without IVF process. If you want to do it with IVF, it will be $85k, otherwise it is $55k. This fee included all expense like agency fee, surrogate search, surrogate's pay, legal costs, clinical fees, prenatal care, delivery. When you select the clinic, the actual cost may vary a little bit. Once you signed the contract, the cost never changed. If you want to go for surrogacy, then agencies can help you more better. Agencies fee is not too much high. It varies between $6k to $8k. IVF will cost you somehow high. In case if IVF if you select every time fresh transfer , then cost will also vary.
