Does anyone have an omlet qute?

Hello, are these cages worth the money? The cage would house 2 gerbils. It seems perfect - easy for 9 year old to clean independently and would look good in her room. With postage it's almost £100! Do they ever have sales? There doesn't seem to be any stockists, only available via the website. Thank you!

Personally I don’t think it’s big enough for 1 hamster never mind two active gerbils in it.

Oh! I was just going by the video they have on their site. Is there anything similar that you would reccomend?

We have 2 gerbils in it and they are happy. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing and people saying it was cruel etc but honestly my two love it. They love the wheel too.
One option is to buy some rotastak and adapt it a bit by putting another level on top and drilling a tube into the side.

@Mrsmememe thank you. I think I'll wait and see if they have a sale. It just looks do perfect!

I saw the title of this thread and thought you were looking for quotes about omlettes ...

They are rarely on sale, we are going to get another one as my other son wants a hamster in the new year.
Genuinely ignore all the people who say it’s cruel, some of the gerbilariums I’ve seen as alternatives are awful!

I never said it’s cruel but I wouldn’t ignore people who say it either. There is a distinct lack of floor space for two gerbils. I wouldn’t choose looks over an appropriate housing for my pets.

I'd not heard of this one but generally Omlet are known for being very expensive for relatively small housing compared to what is recommended.

The Qute looks smaller than the tank I had my childhood gerbils in and that was not very big really. I think the general recommended floor space for gerbils is 40cm x 75cm, enough lateral space for the little gerbils able to get up some decent speed before hitting a wall.

The Qute is a lot less, its floor space is 37cm x 48cm. They like lateral space as well as vertical space.

You may be better off picking up a plain 3ft glass fish tank and adding a homemade wire mesh hood. You'll be able to pick them up second hand really easily.

This kind of thing:

I'd also add that a bedroom is the WORST place to keep small furries like gerbils. My childhood gerbils caused many a sleepless night as digging the corners of their tank at 3am was an awesome fun game. And there was nothing I could do to stop them.

I wouldn't recommend the Qute. So many people who get have problems with getting the gerbils to use the vertical tube. Going up or down a vertical tube just isn't natural for gerbils, and probably quite scary. It's also small for the price.

Have a look at the Zooplus.co.uk. I can recommend the Kerry Terrarium (only £85 with free postage!) which is an excellent choice for gerbils.

Also look at Portonaquapet.co.uk. They have glass tanks with shelves which are ideal for gerbils. Both the Extra Large and Jumbo sizes will be fine for two gerbils.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice, I have a few other options now so will give them all a look and weigh up the pros and cons of each cage.

Too small. Get a nice glass tank or terrarium, you can get a big one and put lots of deep burrowing substrate in.
