My GP2 has a lump (I'm hoping fatty) on his side

He's had a lump on his flank for over 6 months (like a lentil).
We mentioned this when he had his check up. The Rodentologist said it was a fatty lump, and he had one under his arm (He's an Abby type so long haired. His coat is lovely and dense now for winter)
Last week, I noticed another one on the back of his head (between his ears)

Tonight I noticed his lump on the side was bigger. We cuddle the guineas every day and I'd have noticed it, so it has literally grown.

My logical side tells me it's a fatty cyst of nodule.
GP1 had a lump the size of a Smartie on his belly last year. After 4 months it went.

But the worried side says "Bloody Hell. They don't get bigger overnight do they"?

I'll need to have a good check tomorrow to see if it's an abscess or something. (But it wasn't weepy or scabby so don't think it's a bite)
DH said he got a bit arsey when he touched it.

He's my guinea pig my DS pig but my DD and I check them over daily.

Could be a vet visit in the week .I'll look at him again tomorrow with DD.(They are in the bedroom munching down Christmas veg)

Hi70 hope you had a good few days, although from this message it sounds like you will have been worrying about the lump, not surprising - I know I would have been preoccupied by such a thing. Wondered if you had chance to take him to the vet or what you have decided to do with him, - is the lump any bigger at all? One of our girls had a horrible fatty cyst type thing behind her ear, and another like you describe above, on her arm/armpit, they grew to a certain size but never seemed to bother them much -as we know guineas are lumpy animals and prone to all sizes, but they are a worry and it is best to get checked if you are fretting about him - I know they can be sensitive to being touched on them, and if they do scratch them they can get infected etc, so best to be on the safe side, I think it sounds like benign cysty type thing, which do fill up with pus, so the vet would be a good place to get to the bottom of it, poor little soul, do hope it gets sorted. X

It could be a sebaceous cyst. Piggies are very prone to them and they can appear anywhere. Our vet prefers to remove these cysts rather than lance because he says they fill up again and there is scar tissue from the lancing. We took OB's brother to him with a lump and his first thought was sebaceous cyst. From what we told him, he advised we shouldn't risk it bursting and being more difficult to treat.

Yes fortified that is good advice. A vet nurse friend attempted to burst one of the girl's cysts, and there was horrible scar tissue, it was a horrible mess, and very stressful for her, it grew back again and looked really ugly, bless her - it was just behind her ear and she kept on at it ( one it had been lanced) so was more trouble afterwards than before. Hope he gets on Ok and it is nothing to worry about.

Hi thank you fellow cavy enthusiasts.
I had a good old grope around at GP2 today and iy seems smaller than it did yesterday.
It just freaked me out that it had gone from the size of a red lentil to a small pea overnight. (DD is excellant with the pigs and checks them over every day)

It seems to have shrunk a bit so I was wondering if it was a pulled hair follicle round the original lump (he's had the small lump for a good eight months)

It's not got a 'head' on it, doesn't feel hot.( so most likely a cyst or fatty lump). He is a 'lumpy' little bod, that's 3 he's got now .

I will get him to the vets in the New Year just to put my mind at rest (unless it worsens of course). But it's not an emergency and they are probably busy with poisoned cats/dogs eating Christmas puddings and chocolate.

It's just not what you want to find when you bring the pigs in for their evening hugs

Oh, good luck with this. It doesn't sound like something that will escalate very quickly so I'm sure all will be fine if he can see the vet in the new year.

Oh70 so glad you are happier with it so to speak, it might just be one of those guinea things.... if it isnt bothering him thats a good sign. Let us know how you get on if you go to the vet.
