Why is everyone suddenly wearing chunky short sleeved cowl neck sweaters?

Are they the next big thing?

Any suggestions on good ones?

Thanks.

I have a couple, I can't remember where I got them from now. I wear long-sleeved t-shirts underneath. They are good on an apple shape as they come in on the hip and are loose at the waist.

I'm not. I had a fine-knit one with elbow length sleeves which I liked a lot but dd1 has stolen it, I think.

They are not flattering on slim people!

I have tried on a couple of this season's very chunky sleeveless knits (various designs) and they do me no favours at all.

I bought one from Topshop, looks awful though, I keep trying it on hoping it will look better but it never does.

It makes me look like a rectangle.

I bought this one from Jigsaw - I'm an 8/10 and I bought a small (they don't do an xs) but it is just too big. The sales asst said that was how they were supposed to look, and I bought it in a rush but it is going back. Makes me look really mumsy.

I second the cube comment.

Hi Cybil

I think Jigsaw are slightly improved this season, after seeming to go a bit strange for a while - could this achieve the same look without being cuboid?

I'm not wearing them (yet anyway) but really haven't had a chance to go clothes shopping in ages.

Like that cape, I bet that's dead useful

Call me old fashioned but I like a bit of knitwear on my arms, this sleeveless jumper thing is beyond me (shivers and adjusts rug on knees).

NorkilyChallenged · 19/10/2009 19:24

Kbear, I couldn't agree more. If I'm cold enough to warrant a jumper then I'm going to find that my arms are cold too.

Kbear · 19/10/2009 19:26

to the sleeve wearers!

Report
Kbear · 19/10/2009 19:27

and cowl necks??? you'll catch your death out there in a cowl neck

Report
NorkilyChallenged · 19/10/2009 19:34

Quite right too

And... if the sleeveless jumper wearers tried to high five, then their arms would get even more cold.

My lovely mum bought me a short sleeved jumper from French Connection. I've never owned anything from French Connection and she said she looked for ages before she chose it so I can't bear to tell her than I don't like the short-sleevedness of it and that it is too short to cover my muffin top chilly tum.

Noticed them everywhere, too. Bizarre, unflattering fashion. Have to disagree on the apple shape thing, too.
I think they only look good on the very thin. Anyone with event he slightest mum tum looks like a dumpling in them.

I can't wear short sleeved knitwear either.
I got a nice looking short sleeved long jumper thing a couple of years ago (not cowl neck though, square neck), it looks good, nice shape, kingfisher blues and greens.
But I just never wear it. If it's cold enough for wool - I want sleeves, and if it's warm enough for short sleeves - I don't want wool.
I don't look good in the long-sleeved-t-shirt-underneath look.

I agree that they're unflattering and pointless.

So what if they're the next big thing?

Won't be long before they're gracing the aisles of Sainsbo's on 60 yos.
