ok, what is it with Boden....

why is everyone a boden fan? what am i missing....?
im a size 14, pear shaped but a 14 for both tops and bottoms...
im having a look at boden website and the stuff is lovely but quite pricey and im not sure alot of it would suit my shape/size

would anyone like to shed light on why i see so many threads raving about boden? im quite happy to be converted!

I also wonder this, I'm a similar size to you, and Boden just doesn't appeal to me at all. Mainly I think because clothes always look completely different on me then they do on the picture.

Hmmm I do see what you mean pickyvic, I have been wondering the same. It's not that the clothes don't look nice - they do, and look like they would suit a certain body shape very well. It's just odd to consistently see so many threads about one shop in one place. That's the bit I don't get.

I like some of Boden but nothing appliqued and heavily patterned.

The reason I like B is because I am early 50s and refuse to dress mumsy in Country Casuals and Alexon.

I can buy plain well fitting trousers/jeans from B without hideous logos ( as in NEXT), and jazz up the basics with jewellery etc.

I don't think it has much to offer the under 35s, tbh, but for us oldies it does offer some good basics, which are just a tad nicer than M&S.

i like it for the kids - in the sale - can't afford it otherwise, it is good quality and washes well. however IMO the adult stuff is strictly for those who have their summers at their holiday home in Rock....or wish they did
alot of it the same as the kids stuff but in big sizes...

tbh, i think the main appeal is down to the fact that it's mail order. on mn, you have lots of mums with young kids, whose worst nightmare is dragging little ones round the shops when you need new clothes. tis pricey, but most purchases are either during sale time or using a decent discount code.

ive looked at the website and still not a convert. never thought about the baby clothes though....just kept seeing loadsa boden threads and thought theyd all be for adult clothes. i think if you are very slim some of the dresses would be lovely but the price!!

I don't think I've been on any of the Boden threads before, but couldn't resist this one.

I am 14, and I do like some of Boden's stuff a lot. Partly for what lucykate says, as I hate, Hate, HATE trailing round shops, even before I had ds. The quality is generally very good, and you can usually get a discount (always 10% for MNers). I like that everything isn't always black or grey. I like the pretty floral patterns. After a few seasons, I've got a pretty good idea which of the things will suit me and which just won't sit right.

I have just splurged on a cashmere cardigan (machine washable) in a lovely green colour and it is soft and beautiful and hides my post-pg tummy. I don't feel at all mumsy in it.

The quality of the baby clothes is good, although it should be at that price. You can sell it second hand on ebay for good prices.

I thihk it's because it's advertised on this site. If say Monsoon or Kew advertised here, we'd talk about those shops more.

I look at boden on line, but I've only ever bought things for the children in the sale, and I never would even have done that if it hadn't been for this site (mn) advertising it.

I don't feel I'm tall enough for boden. Most of the clothes seem to be long tunics, dresses which can't be shortened due to pattern or they're knitted, the trousers all have turn ups or are a bit voluminous.. there is no shorter leg lenght.

Boden's appeal for me:

Mail order - I'm 45 minutes drive from decent shops and work full time, don't like spending precious weekends trawling round shopping centres. The catalogue and website are far better than other companies' efforts. I also love White Stuff but have to see the clothes in the shop before buying to get a real idea of what it looks like.

Their stuff suits me! 47, size 12, 5'9. I like dresses and they fit me well. Much as I love young, casual stuff on other people it looks ridiculous on me. I look dreadful in black but I also wouldn't wear some of the more bizarre applique/hotchpotch stuff.

It suits my lifestyle - don't have to dress up for work but wouldn't want to wear jeans all the day, I spend a lot of time outside/on the beach.

My DDs are just a bit too old for the clothes, but everything they had lasted for years, washed well, got passed on to other families looking new and didn't make them look like mini hookers.

It's expensive but the most I've ever paid is 20% off - don't know anyone who pays full price.

I'm embarrassed to say I do go to Cornwall on holiday!

My theory is that Johnnies's policy is to list all the clothes at 20% more than he really wants for them and then reel us in with one of his many offers. I've never bought anything at full price.

I like their double-layer tops for work, and I love most of their girl's clothes for my DD (particularly dresses). The rest of it appears to be designed for tall anorexics and/or colour blind people (sorry if anyone loves their bright floral cardies!).
