Style and beauty

Does anyone fancy a near-impossible style challenge?

Am a bit desperate.

Just found out I've got to go to a wedding in the middle of September. The last time I went to a wedding was three years ago and I was eight months pregnant, so I don't have a current wedding outfit hanging around. I imagine people will still be wearing summery clothes in September, but the shops are full of wintery ones aren't they? Although I suppose some shops will still have sale rails...

So. I need help to find an outfit. And it gets worse: I'm a dumpy, apple-shaped size 18. Never wear dresses as I'm too big round the middle and look awful in them (especially wrap dresses, which usually get suggested to the generously proportioned). Legs are OK so can do tunics and leggings, and could do wide trousers and a nice top at a push.

Even worse, wedding is an extremely poncy trendy central London job, so I need to look a bit cool. Yes, I know that I am neither the size nor the shape to have any right to look cool, but there you go.

Budget is high street only, sadly.

Any ideas, oh wise and slightly intimidating style and beauty experts?

You don't have the right to look cool?! Daft.

I think some nice tailored wide legged trousers in a good swishy material, with a long (cover bottom type) top. High sandals and a nice chunky necklace.

I'm with ItsAll - I think wide leg trousers with a pretty tunic top, some nice shoes and jewellery would be a great look.

Maybe some trousers like

these

or

these

Have found some beautiful tops on the Monsoon site

this is gorgeous

beautiful

love this - so chic

this isn't as long at the others but is stunning. With some good control underwear and a decent bra it would look fab with black wide leg trousers

Ooh I love that orange tunic thing - I should have said I love bright colours and am not afraid of wearing them. It could go either way though - there's a possibility I could look like a small, round tangerine . Will have to hot-foot it to Monsoon at the weekend and have a look.

Have to do some work now but will be back at lunchtime for another look. Thanks everyone - am starting to feel inspired at last!

PS was being a bit tongue-in-cheek about the having no right to look cool thing

I agree the orange tunic is lush,

tunics and dresses on here are nice

Nice but they all seem to come in Small only.

One thing I've learnt from this thread is that Coast do a size 18 - I'd always assumed they didn't so gave them a wide berth. Will wander over there on my way back from Monsoon.

Yeah I was glad to see they do an 18 too (not my size but think it's silly to stop at a 16)

Hope you find something gorgeous!
