Here's a challenge. I've got a bunion looming so I'm looking for stylish shoes and boots that aren't going to make it worse.

My twin lives in fugly flats (including ugg style) and had a bunion done last year. I live in heels, but am always barefoot at home, and my feet are as ugly ordinary as they ever were. I've got large knuckles on big toes, but they've been that way since I can remember.

So sorry not to be more helpful, but think you should be looking for shoes which fit properly and let your arches be comfortable, rather than focusing on flats (which can be agonising)

I have bunions on both feet, and it IS a challenge

AND I secretly feel like crying everytime I read someone posting on MN about how frumpy/ ugly/chavtastic/disgusting etc a particular type of shoe is(crocs, footglove to name but a few) because it will almost certainly be a shoe that I've recently discovered I can wear and walk for 500 yds in without getting blisters or aching toes....

For what it's worth, I've found that heels CAN be OK, so long as they're not stiletto, but more chunky, or wedge-style.

M&S footglove range are very comfortable and some of them are OK for under jeans etc.

Ecco also work really well for me.

Birkenstocks are pure foot magic. Get some strappy silver sandals for summer (Madrid, Siwa or Salamanca are the best IMO). They do boots and shoes too, although you might have to wait till autumn to see the new range. Try this or this for more comfy stylish shoes. I reckon you'll find something there to fend off the bunions.

2to3 - sorry, but I found Birkenstocks to be the worst possible shoes EVER for bunions! When you have a bunion it rubs on the edge on the inside of birkies. In fact any kind of 'strappy' shoe doesn't fit, because the straps go over the bunion and rub the skin raw.

I've found only closed toe type summer shoes are bearable, or something so soft that it 'gives' when you walk, rather than 'rubs'.

My feet are nobbly rather than true buniony - I have the lump but my toe doesn't turn in. I find any sandals with wide smooth band across the front are fine - clarks usually fit quite well. M&S are quite wide fitting anyway and their heels are very comfortable.
Most of the stock at Shoon is OK too - they do lots of comfortable shoes with a fahionable twist, not at all frumpy.
