I want a really great pair of trousers - what shops/designers would you recommend

I am looking for a really great pair of trousers, something that sharpens my look and i can wear out for dinner/theatre or to work, and that i feel great in!

I have (thanks mn style jury) bought some 7 for all mankind jeans, and love them, and now want the same in a pair of trousers, great fitting, styled, and something when i put it on makes me feel better! I am 5.8, and a 10 or 12, depending on shop, and in muy 40's!

I have looked at reiss, but a bit toooo worklike for me, and i think i want something a bit more tapered .... i went to gap but found it a bit too predictable... i am happy to go designer for a great piece that will last in my wardrobe ...

any ideas - anyone wear hobbs? or a designer that they would recommend ....

Don't think Hobbs would fit the bill tbh - too tame/baggy.

You could try net-a-porter or their sister site that does designer discount stuff (argh...can't remember the name - but there must be a link from net a porter!!)Flannels does some good stuff online.

Jigsaw ok perhaps - or Whistles.

Have a look here. I think the Helmut Lang are usually well cut, and Vivienne Westwood is famous for her cut.

How about Maxmara? I have two pairs of trousers from there and they are beautifully cut. Have worn them loads over the last few years and have no doubt they will still be in my wardrobe 10 years from now. If you are anywhere near Bicester Village, there is an outlet store there which is well worth a visit.

Joseph or Theory do great cuts - you're about the same size as me and that's who i usually go for.

There's a discount code for Theory on the money saving expert website at the mo. Only valid in DH Evans IIRC.

I third Joseph.

I have recently bought trousers from Sofie d'Hoore (two pairs) and Bellerose, both Belgian companies, and think they are fabulous - not tight, but fitted and very flattering.

I love Zara for trousers personally. I've never found better trousers elsewhere tbh. I think it's partly because I'm on the tall side and most trousers are way too short. Having said that, I got some Theory trousers in T K Maxx a couple of weeks ago for £40 and they're really nice, albeit a bit on the short side.

RR, I'd agree re Zara although I don't always like the fabrics and their sizes can be a bit funny.

Did get a fantastic pair in Great Plains in the winter - £45, pale grey wool and part lined. Unfortunately the website doesn't really do their stuff justice and there aren't that many shops.

what about Margaret Howell? friend of mine swears by them and has two pairs- cost around £150 but last for ages. Another one is Fahri.

In Belgium and France. But I'm sure you can get them in London - google the designers and you'll find something.

Or alternatively hop on the Eurostar and go shopping for the day in Brussels

thanks to all those that helped! I went to a large department store, went to every single designer and picked up their trousers in my size.
Found a FABULOUS pair, that is exactly what i wanted, really stylish, and great great fit ... they turned out to be dolce & gabanna ... and it was a random choice as had about 100 pairs to try on!!!!!
will try find a link for them as they are just soooooooo coool!
