Broken Nail!!!

I have just bashed my nail back on the ironing board (teach me to iron ), and it has got the start of a break right at the very bottom of the nail head (where the tip joins the skin)... cutting it I think will make it really painful as it will be too short...

Any suggestions for what to do to cause the least pain?

Ooh, and what makes nails grow quick? Mine are fairly fast, but wedding in 4 1/2 weeks and if I'm losing this one so low down, I need it to grow quick!!!

When did I get this girly???

I managed to do this to my thumb nail a while ago - I caught it that low with a sharp knife whilst chopping up some veg.

Right, you'll need some nail glue - you can get it with a little brush in the pot which is good. Put some on the break and when dry also a couple of coats of nail polish (clear is ok) over the top. That will hopefully strengthen the nail and allow it to grow and avoid it tearing (ouch!). You'll have to be careful not to bash it or make it worse. Keep an eye on it and replace the glue and polish regularly. Try not to soak your hand for too long in water either as that softens nails and could make the break worse.

It'll take a few weeks to grow out or up enough for you to cut it without it seeming too low. Might be ok by 4 1/2 weeks, but it'll still be quite short. The glue might hold it at bay for some time if it's only a small split.

Lost the nail in the end

They seem to grow insanely fast anyway though... over night it grew enough to not cause huge pain but cutting it off.
