Right, I know I'm clueless, but what shoes to dress up jeans?

For a long time my standard dress for a casual night out has been, nice top, bootcut jeans and high(ish) heeled boots or sandals depending on the weather/time of year.

I know I can't do bootcut anymore and I love my slouch jeans, which I wear with either converse pumps or Timberland Boots during the day, but what for evening. Have a feeling heels aren't right? I have some nice flat sandals for when the weather's good, but what when it's not? (which is when I'm most likely to be wearing the jeans)

There's no way I'm going to do skinny jeans and straight leg remind me of the ones my mum used to buy for me in Tescos!

Can anyone help?

I cannot be parted from my bootcuts so can't help you!

Personally I don't think you can really dress up slouch jeans, as they always look casual. Hope I am proven wrong!

What colour are they?

How about some flat ballet pump style shoes?

LOL llareggub, perhaps there is hope for me!

BaDa - I don't need them to be dressed up as such, just not trainer casual IYSWIM. Is there an alternative, i.e. what is the natural replacement for my bootcuts with heels?

They're standard darkish blue denim. Ballet pumps.... will have to have a look.

How wide are they at the bottom? I always find if trousers are quite loose they look off balance when paired with a small shoe (ballet pump style etc) Would you consider something like this?

bootcuts are back in

Well I'm too big for skinny (TopShop size 14), and found straight cut looked fab. I wear them with these and personally think they look lovely, but then I am not a fashionable person....

And they are really really comfortable. I was looking for work shoes and didn't know I needed red peep toe wedge shoes until I tried them on.

Why can't you do bootcut anymore?

The key to looking great in a pair of jeans is that the pair fit well and you feel comfortable in them!

I don't think you have to do skinny jeans to look trendy. It's all about doing what is right for your own figure. Bootcut are still 'in.' I bought some really nice ones in New Look the other week.

With regards to slouch jeans, flat sandals do look nice. What about something like this although I agree with Bababing that small shoes can look quite off balance when put with loose trousers.

Thank you for those. I have some flat sandals that I think look nice with them, I am looking for something for when it's wet/cold. Not sure why I've started to think about it this weekend but you know it will come.

I was thinking along the ballerina pumps line, but wondered if they're a bit dainty. Was thinking about the chunkier, soft leather pumps Boden do, but they don't have them ATM

Slouch jeans look equally fab with wedges or heels imo

Nothing too dainty with slouch jeans. What about a shoe or sandal with a thick sole to replace the boots/converse look?

why will you not do a skinny? just curious.

agree re slouch and heel, no no no

Stargazing- I can't do skinny because I'm pushing 40 and have thunder thighs. Although I'm only a size 10/12, my thighs are wider than my hips. It's not too bad if balanced by a wider hem, but skinny nooooooo.

I'm getting desperate now, have been doing Ok with my flat sandals, but I have had a manky black toenail for a while, which I have been covering with several layers of nail varnish. It dropped off today and what's underneath is considerably mankier and can't be covered with paint. So no more sandals for me this summer

GarpeJelly, that sounds good, but I'm not sure what you mean, any examples?

Anyone like these or any others on this page?

The black ones are probably more sensible though red is not going to go with my bright pink tops!

I love red and pink personally. And red and purple.

black shoes are so just ... blah, unless high and glam. I think flats should be vivid.

But what do I know, I wear skinny jeans...

yes, think the red ones are good but maybe a touch Minnie Mouse? . I wear rocketdogs with my slouchies, have you seen them? they look quite good, less chunky of sole, more plimsolly. hang on ...

I've got these in red - any good? and then if you go for black, they're kind of 'lifted' by the tattoo design iyswim

bugger, bad link. have a flick through the rocketdog range, it's the 'positive tattoo" ones I was on about.
