Any straighteners experts please?!

Can anyone advise please?
I'm going to buy dd some straighteners for Christmas and I've kind of narrowed it down to two.

  1. ghd platinum +
  2. Cloud Nine original iron


She particularly wants to curl as well as straighten. I just use Babyliss and barely ever bother so I have no clue what to go for!

So the story goes the plate patent holder binned off GHD and took his plates and that became cloud 9. I've had both I prefer cloud 9 they are so light!!

I have Cloud Nine originals and they are great for both straightening and casual waves . I think a wand/tongs are better for very curly curls .

I've had my GHD originals years and use them for curling most days, they're great and I wouldn't switch. I've tried cloud nines and they are also good but the GHD original style tips it for me, not least because they turn themselves off after a time if you forget, which may be useful for teens especially.


Both companies were founded by the same man ultimately. He semi retired from GHD, sold it on and then later returned to start cloud nine, which I believe he owns now so presumably any differences will likely be minimal.

I'm sure she will be overjoyed with either!

If she has heavy or thick or courser hair either GHDs or cloud 9's will flatten it like a dream. They are both well worth the cash.

My original GHDs lasted about 3 years. I bought them in about 2003 and took them around the world with me and battered them a bit. Next GHDs lasted from 2006-2020!!! I use straighteners every single day. I got the cloud 9's last year.
