Will anything help my hair colour stick?

I get colour and highlights done as in the first (green) pic which was straight after colouring (doesn't show the highlights much in the photo, but blond highlights). But within a week it looks as blonde as straw like in the second (blue) pic. Is the base colour just not holding? I used to think it was swimming/chlorine but not this time. My natural colour is grey. I'm wondering if I am just wasting my money. Pics to follow, if the app will let me attach, which it isn't colouring.

Cannot see your photos, but some people's hair doesn't take dye or perms very well at all. I once spent what was a lot of money having magenta highlights at about the same time as a friend - hers stayed magenta for months till they grew out, mine faded and were gone in less than a month. Same hairdresser, same dye, different hair. And I only use the tiniest bit of shampoo.

That's what I am thinking. I was really tempted to go for a grey pixie cut after growth of roots in lockdown, then decided to colour again. Need to discuss with my hairdresser I think. Mumsnet says I can't upload more than six images a day, even though I haven't uploaded any, so no pics.

Can't see your pic either but my hair doesn't take colour well either, or perms in the 80s when they were in fashion Grin

In lockdown I've tried a couple of permanent dyes that haven't been permanent Hmm I look after them well too, use colour saving shampoo and all that but nope.

In the past I've spent hours in the salon waiting for it to take.

If it helps I think it means that your hair is in good condition. I'm watching this thread with interest in case someone comes along with an answer.

I know that tomato sauce on your hair helps to get rid of green. Yellow needs a purple shampoo and blue tones down hair that has gone brassy orange. Head and Shoulders used daily strips colour if you want to take the colour out. Josh Wood hair shots are good for restoring or helping you get the depth of colour you want.

Ironically when I used to use temporary dyes they always stayed forever. Maybe I should try them again. Be a lot cheaper
