Menopause sweats!

Just wondering if anyone has found an effective way of dealing with this! I'm perimenopausal and in the two or three days leading up to a period, I sweat buckets, even when it's not warm outside. I'm also on medication that makes me sweatier, so sometimes it's a losing battle to stay dry. I feel horribly self-conscious going outside when I'm having a hot flush - I'm also worried that I might smell bad and not realise.

Obviously deodorant/anti perspirant is fairly useless and I can't very well put it all over my body anyway. I try to dress lightly in natural fabrics. Are there any products or supplements that other women in this situation have found helpful?

Might be worthwhile going to GP to check if it is menopause sweats. My friends copious sweats was actually a heart condition. Also they might be able to recommend something (don't hold your breath though!!)

www.odaban.com/products/antiperspirant-spray/ This and driclor work really well.

I did think about other possible causes, but the fact it ties in with my cycle did seem to point towards hormonal stuff. I have a medication review with my GP next week, so I'll mention that I've been experiencing really extreme sweating as a side effect and see what she says.

Do you have to spray yourself all over with those products??

Well driclor is roll on but you can put odaban on the face. I’d put it on the worst areas and leave some skin to sweat.

There was a menopause show on iplayer and they showed cbt for hot flushes.

There’s a menopause topic on here too.

Thanks. I don't think I can take CBD with the medication I'm on, but I will ask my GP if I can have some blood tests to check my hormones, thyroid, blood sugar etc. Hopefully it's just a case of age/meds/fatness!

CBT is cognitive behavioural therapy.

I am another who thought I was perimenopausal, but ended up with a heart attack.

The sweats were a warning shot, I hadn't been to the doc in years (decades) and though I was just "that age" - 56 so it damn well should be!

Would get tested for blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well as the hormone side of things.

forewarned is forearmed.

Sorry, I misread your post - I didn't see how CBT could help physical symptoms? I am having it at the moment, as it happens, but for depression.

Yes, I will investigate further. I have generally low blood pressure and (inherited) high cholesterol - I really don't want to start taking statins on top of everything else but we'll see what comes out of the tests.

It’s still on iplayer “The truth about menopause”. The women they tried it on said it controlled the hot flushes.
