I have hair dye!

Doing the 48 patch test as we speak - tomorrow is the day.

I've never dyed my hair at home before - normally get a full head of highlights.
I'm going grey, existing highlights are half way down by head, so have bought loreal age perfect - a light blonde colour.

Is there anything I should know? My main issue is how do I know it is ready- box says 30 mins but i know my hair is normally quite resistant- will anything go wrong if I leave it, say 40 mins - does it get to a certain colour and then just stop?

Many blonde shades say 45 mins not 30 - in the small print!
Good luck op.
Have never used a salon and always home dye - 48 + several (cough cough) greys!!

I've done home dyes occasionally when I've been desperate.

My main tips are 1) take your time with application 2) try to decant the mixture into a plastic pot (maybe use a small paint brush or something to apply?) 3) don't forget to use Vaseline or similar along hair line.

I'm currently rocking the Cruella De'Ville look but have a few boxes of hair dye/root touch up somewhere about for when I get desperate!

Good luck!

Think if it’s the first time you’re doing it I wouldn’t leave it any longer in case it damages your hair or scalp. Good luck!

Also take seriously the instructions about doing the roots first and then run through the rest of the lengths for a short time at the end which is the re dye instruction.

I’m a home dye virgin and bought this (arrived today)
Any tips?
My fab hairdresser normally does my roots but for much longer than 10mins then combs it through rest to blend it in for another few minutes
Will it do any harm to leave on for longer?
Say 15 mins on roots then comb through for 5 mins
Help please

I use that brand regularly. I have left it longer but it has come out very dark when I have done. Are you covering greys and/or whites? Are they stubborn? My roots are pure white and stubborn.

Leave for 20 mins but no more. Make sure you put a barrier cream on hairline and ears and cheeks to stop staining. Don't do what I did recently and sit next to newly Farrow and Ball painted wall and splatter hair dye. I always sit at my dining table and spread paper to put all my stuff on. I use a magnifying mirror too! Paint it on. Pile on head.
