wedding dress at 6months pg

Hello,

Am not remotely interested in fashion but am getting married in early sept (when I will be 6 months pg) so feel I should at least wear a dress... it will be v. informal and dp will probably just wear trousers and shirt (no tie) - any ideas about what to wear mn fashionistas? I am 5 foot 6, size 10, black hair, dark skin. Nothing busty as I have no bust (even when pg ), nothing flouncy either - just a nice simple dress (NOT white) which will make me look lovely!

please help, I am driving myself insane...

I would go for something simple and classic in Empire-style a la Jane Austen. You might find something nice in the shops as the fashion this season is for smock tops and high waisted frocks. It'll float beautifully over the bump and doesn't have to be white. If money no object, have a look at Ghost - they usually have lovely floaty things (in my dreams...).

JoJo Maman have a couple of very pretty dresses that are nice enough to get wed in. I can't do links but there's one in a bluey green that would look fab with dark colouring.

thanks both, ghost is a bit beyond my budget

can't find a blue one on jojomaman - thought this one might be nice although it is white...???

It says it's cream with a rose pattern. Could be very pretty but the picture isn't very good, is it? Why don't you order the brochure? Then you could have a proper look. What a rubbish website!

What sort of budget do you have?

I got married when I was 7 months preggers, and went for a bias cut dress in a big size. So it wasn't maternity but because its bias cut will sit really nicely over your bump. My friend helped me, shes a personal shopper at Liberty, but I'm sure you'll find something, don't just look at maternity clothes

it is a rubbish pic, isn't it? Budget is small - was hoping to get a cheap high street type thing as have never been into dressing up. But would go up to 100 quid or so if I saw something really nice.

Thing is, all my foxy non-pregnant friends will be dressing up and will put me to shame - people will walk in and wonder which one is the bride!!

will just add that ghost would be perfect and they aren't extremely expensive. Why don't you check it out, you might be surprised and it is your wedding day so something special would be good!

thanks quokka - did have a look but they were a bit too dressy for what I was looking for (although very nice) - have also looked at non-maternity stuff but don't know how big I'll be by sept and kind of like more fitted stuff which makes me look definitely pregnant not fat IYKWIM

they also do it short, to the knee. if you really do not want white, they do other nice dresses too

i wore this a size bigger than usual with a black velvet bolero type thing from next. debenhams do quite a few empire line ballgown type dresses. at 6 months you dont know if you will be huge or barely showing, i wouldnt have filled a maternity dress so this was just right. dont buy anything too early!

Agree Aloha. Is gorgeous. Also agree that you should have a beautiful dress for your wedding day. It doesn't have to be too showy (I'm gathering from your post that you don't want that) but should make you feel $1,000,000!

scorpio and aloha, those are both really beautiful dresses but I was thinking of something a bit more low-key. Bearing in mind that you will never normally catch me in anything but jeans and dp hates glamorous clothes, was thinking of something more like this

I don't particulary like this dress (plus it's white!) but about this dressed up IYKWIM. Have been trawling through ebay but nothing really takes my fancy. Thanks for all your suggestions though, any more gratefully received

I just went on the Jojomaman website and the bluey dress isn't on there - bizarre!! It's deffo in their catalogue and might be a winner for you - why not order a catalogue and see what yoy think.

the next dress is lovely. Why not white? White is a lovely colour, you don'thave to worry about holding your stomach in because you are pregnant (joy!) and it is your wedding day. Hold a bunch of flowers and you will look very pretty and elegant. I think white with dark hair and skin is gorgeous. Treat yourself to a beautiful necklace.

I suppose there's nothing wrong with white, although wedding is in a garden and dd is 20 months... can't see it remaining white for too long
how about this purpley one or this hippy dippy one??

I got married when I was five months pregnant - and while not wearing jeans and a top, did wear a nice dress over some white trousers, so casual but also dressy, bit of white etc etc.

Whereabouts are you? Don't want to recommend London shops if that is just irritating, but my dress was lovely and French and £80!

Also try doesmybumplookbiginthis (?) on the web, they hire 'event' maternity wear - and I would have gone for that had I not found my dress.
