Absolutely freezing...your recommendations for warm tops?

Hi everyone - longtime lurker on this topic's threads.
I apologise as I'm sure this has been asked before - but I'm really feeling the cold no matter how many layers I wear. Not sure if my arms are growing (?) or if the tumbledryer's been shrinking stuff but my long sleeved tops aren't quite reaching my wrists. Time for some new base layers. I'm looking at the M&S HeatGen stuff - any recommendations? Not v keen on Uniqlo as the sizes are beyond random.

Well I live in Uniqlo ultra warm heat tech tips this time of year. Only need one under a jumper and I'm toasty warm. I have five of them so enough for the whole week or more.

May give them another try then with careful pre-measuring and consulting the size chart..do you wear the scoop necks or polo necks?

Any thermal vest (m&s with silk us really nice), top (either long or short sleeve), fitted(tight) v-neck cashmere sweater (although some of Marks fitted acrylic sweaters work good too), warm sweatshirt or Jumper. Down or suede gilet if you are still cold(but unless you are satisfied outside you won't be)

Thermal fleece lined leggings or long John's under trousers on the bottomed half.

Look at the composition of your jumpers! When it gets really cold you need proper wool - acrylic and polyester or cotton mixes won't cut it.

Yes to the Uniqlo heat tec tops. They are thin enough to not add bulk under whatever you are wearing and really are warm.

Thanks..good tips...just had a look at the two jumpers I'm wearing and one is wool/cotton. The other one I thought was a pure wool biker is wool/modal/viscose/nylon/cashmere! Blush

I have been known to raid the men's sections of charity shops where pure wool sweaters can be had for peanuts. For some reason they are always priced lower than women's sweaters and are often in better condition - the one's I've bought in the past look virtually unworn.

The M & S heatgen stuff is very good, but whatever you do, don't tumble dry them!! None of their clothing these days is remotely dryer friendly.

I always buy the scoop neck ones as they can't be seen with other layers on, really good in autumn and spring when I like to wear shirts and no jumper, keeps me really warm while not looking to bundled up.

Thanks for all your help & suggestions. Toffee I followed your layering suggestions- brilliant. It's the fitted jumper that makes a massive difference - thanks. Bought some Uniqlo yesterday and will head to the charidee shops men's sections- that's a great tip.
Now to investigate fleece lined leggings Smile

I got the 2 pack long sleeved black heat gen m&s tops which I layer over a vest top. Bloody snuggly I tell you.
