How to get trousers/jeans to fit on the waist instead of falling down?!

I have quite a small waist and trousers or jeans fit me when I first put them on but very quickly seem to start falling down. I can't buy a smaller size as I struggle to get my bum and hips into anything smaller. I think it's not helped by fabrics stretching out a bit as I wear them but I can't prevent that and the clothes I'm wearing aren't necessarily low quality. I don't imagine a belt would help much as it seems that there is so much fabric that I would have to gather or fold the fabric to fit to my waist. How does everybody else deal with this? I am sick of an outfit looking nice and then spending all day pulling up my trousers as they're sagging under my bum!

If you don't have a sewing machine then get a tailor. £5-10 a pair. If you have a swing machine is v easy to cut a v shape out and stitch then up yourself!

Haha! Not quite. I've got a photo here. It looks worse in real life and it has a fairly large gap all the way around. They're just standard straight leg jeans.

Despite my teasing I have a similar problem but without the hips. I am straight up and down and find high waisted suit me best.

Yup! I took loads to a tailor. People think I've lost weight! I then did some myself. It's only a shape above the pockets bought in the extra band of the belt loop area. Scary first time but really easy. Try it after many YouTube video looksies and studying the material and practice on an old pair!

my dd has this problem - but jeans from Zara & Mango fit her small waist / larger hips better than Primark, Newlook, Topshop.

I've tried various styles of jeans but it seems to happen with all of them to some extent. Yes, those aren't the most flattering. They look ok when I first put them on but then relaxing a bit causes that. High waisted looks much better on me but I find them quite restrictive to wear all the time. And then sitting down in them is a bit uncomfortable. I never think of myself as having curves but I suppose I do. I may just have to get them adjusted then. Cant believe I just posted my belly for all the world to see. You lucky things.

I buy low rise or high rise skinnies with no stretch as they hold their shape better. Straight leg never looks right on my pear shape.

I've had trousers taken in by a seamstress, makes a massive difference. TBH I'd suggest you try a smaller size as well, jeans give a lot when you wear them and that would help at the waist. What's the difference in your hip to waist ratio? Most brands claim they make trousers with a 10" difference between hip and waist but I think it's more like a 7"-8" difference so anyone who is vaguely hourglass or pear shaped has gaping round the waist.

Oh, and I find high waisted better than midrise.

The other thing is what is your height? I'm 5'2" and get a lot less gaping with petite trousers so that might be something to consider as well.

Just realised they're not straight leg, they're slim leg. Skinny doesn't always look the greatest on me at the bottom of my calves. I had a bit of a gape in my high waisted ones too! I can't actually get the smaller size over my hips. Grrr. I already know I can't be bothered with the hassle of buying jeans and then taking them to the seamstress. When I'm slimmer the problem isn't quite so pronounced, I suppose because I don't put much weight on my waist so the difference between the two increases. I'm 5'6" but my legs are quite a bit shorter and chunkier than you would guess from the upper half of my body.

I know you said not a belt but I bought a wierd belt thing on Amazon which has rescued a couple of pairs of trousers that were a pita to wear. It's like a big bit of elastic and it is called Tights-up. Obvs you have to have a top which covers it. And it wouldn't stop crotch puff but I do think I'll get lots of use out of mine.

I have the same. I recently got a pair of mid rise Paper and Stitch Lift and Shape skinnies that stretch over my arse but keep shape around the waist. They still slip down a bit but at least my arse is still covered!

Same here, it can be a nightmare. I take them to the tailor to have them taken in at the waist. (Sometimes it costs more than the actual pair of trousers)
Or buy stretchy jeans. Or trousers with elasticated waists.

Or get your jeans from river island - I swear they are the only shop that actually size their clothes on real people. The only jeans I've ever had that fit actual female bodies - I.e the hips are bigger than the waist so you don't have a massive gape all down your back

I've never found river island jeans to have a good fit. I think I'll need to go and try lots of things on and I really hate shopping. I can feel the surly teenager inside me rising up at the thought of it. I've just measured myself and it looked like there was a 12 inch difference. Not sure I've measured it right, I did the smallest bit and biggest bit. I couldn't find my soft tape measure so was very scientific and had a go with a metal tape measure. Not the most accurate method... I can't imagine a belt helping because I definitely do get the crotch puffiness too, or did back in the days when I wore belts. Getting back to the weight I was before my last baby would help but that's a pain in the arse. I wanted instant magic solution. My body doesn't look unusual compared to other women's and I am a healthy weight already according to bmi charts. It's quite irritating to find that clothes don't fit.

I have the same problem. Full in the hips & bum but if I size up waist is too big.

Go to Gap and try their Curvy jeans range. I love the curvy skinny jeans.

They are made to be fuller in the hip and bum so you can buy your normal waist size and have them not be too tight in the hip.

I like Levi Demi/bold curve jeans for this reason - try eBay for them
I have also taught myself to take in trousers (jeans are too hard so have had the tailor do that for £12-14)

Do Levi's no longer have a curvy range? When I've typed in curvy jeans, links to Levi's come up but none of them work. The other brand I saw is gap. Everything else looks like it links to jeans in larger sizes. I have used a seamstress for a dress in the past but it seems such a hassle for something as simple as jeans.
