Wearing skirts and dresses challenge

MaisyPops · 19/11/2017 12:00

I much prefer wearing skirts in spring/summer but feel I'm being really lazy at the moment living in jeans and slouchy clothes because it's cold.

I saw some blogs about people trying to wear skirts and dresses for a week and fancied trying it.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to style skirts/dresses lots for cold autumn days? Or does anyone want to join a skirt/dress challenge?

My winter work "uniform" is a tailored knee length skirt, fine knit jumper, opaques and either ankle boots or block heel loafers. At weekends though I wear jeans... I don't really have casual skirts or dresses. I shall watch...

I did this last week to get out of a wearing jeans rut. I wore mostly skirts, opaque tights, longsleeved tops, sweaters, that kind of thing. I now feel I don't have enough skirts. Wearing opaque tights everyday started to feel a bit like the jeans rut. I think wearing ankle boots every day didn't help, but they did look cute. I did receive a lot of compliments.

I wear skirts or dresses every day. Usually a bodycin skirt with black 80/100denier tights or an a line denim skirt with grey or dark purple tights.

I usually do the skirts I’d wear in the summer with boots and tights too

I did Drescember (my own invention) a few years ago. A dress, everyday for the whole of December, including weekends and cleaning / gardening.

Warm tights are essential, boots and wool socks. Vests, slips and or t-shirts under the dress and a cardi or jacket (can be leather) over. A certain don't give a feck attitude is essential, unless you want to go the librarian route (disclaimer, we have a really funky librarian locally but I still have visions of frumpy 70s in my head).

Thought do wicked bamboo tights.

Me and two colleagues did Dresscember a couple of years ago (awareness raising campaign about women in other countries not being able to wear feminine clothes because of increased risk of sexual violence), and it was very thought provoking.

Oooh that is interesting skipping 2009 was the year I did it too.

You really do have to think about some of the things you do and being suitably dressed

Also the slavery thing, big local busts to do welfare checks on nail technicians revealed slavery gets to small rural towns.

I don't own a single pair of trousers and have worn skirts or dresses every day for years. Wrap dresses with tights, camisole and biker boots. I have some nice velvet pencil skirts which I wear with cotton ribbed tights and biker boots or glittery trainers. A denim pinafore dress over a long sleeve Breton stripe top and glittery trainers again. I find Boohoo and Asos good for that kind of thing. I also wear some 50s style dresses with cropped cardigans. Fitted leather jacket for autumn and a long wool dress-type coat with a big faux fur collar and a sparkly brooch in winter.

Wow! I didn't expect so many replies.
This is awesome.

I live in maxi skirts in the summer and jersey pencil skirts.
I have some great thick fleese lined tights I might dig out with body con skirts.

Lots to think about. I hadn't considered a month of it. I could probably do a month as long as tunic/long line tops and leggings counted.

I was in a jeans rut as well, so I boxed them all up and put them on top of the wardrobe so I didn't have easy access. Now I wear dresses and skirts everyday, although dresses tend to be for warmer months. I feel the cold so layer up, long sleeve thermals, cashmere jumpers and cardigans, 80 denier tights.I have a variety of skirts that I loved but rarely wore, A line or drindl style suit me as I'm pear shaped with a small waist. I also love long swishy pleated ones. Lots of them are from Zara. Have fun with it!
