Teen hair-removal

Dd wants to try an epilator. Is this a good idea for someone who's never removed hair before? Can you recommend a good one?

I've suggested I take her to have her legs professionally waxed. Personally, I think that's the best and least painful way.

I've heard people rave about the Braun Silk Epil. I personally find the it painful on my thighs and found waxing less painful in general than the epilator. However, others may feel differently about it. I think using it after a shower is better and possibly the Braun one may have something you can put in the freezer.

I've used a Braun epilator and it's bloody painful! I don't really use it now (got it about two years ago) as you need to be consistent both to keep on top of the hair removal and to develop a certain pain threshold! It is less painful after a few uses but to be honest I can't imagine a teenager putting up with it. Maybe someone will come along who's teenager has experience of it.

My dd shaves with a razor and shaving gel. I do that too and have never waxed or epilated my legs/pits

My DD (nearly 15) uses a wet/dry electric shaver or wet shave ( the Aldi for women are good, DH uses the Aldi 3 Blade and prefers them to any others)

If it was a choice between wax or epilate, I'd suggest a Professional wax .
They will have the equipment, be much quicker and she won't have that horrible "now or never , shall I /Can I "? moment.

Epilation is pins&needles prickly, not painful IME except when I epilate my hobbity feet . But I don't use it on armpits or bikini (wax for that)

I have epilated since I was a teen. It is very painful to start of with, especially around ankles and feet. But I got past that on my own and after the first couple of times I was fine. I found it very freeing to be able to take care of the hair myself, without needing to go for professional help. Personally I never got the hang of shaving and although I have done my own home wax before, I find it quite messy and time consuming.

I think it's not a bad idea booking your dd in for a professional wax to start with. After that experience she might have a better idea of what she might like to try next. My first ever experience of hair removal was stove top hot wax which my mum applied to me in her kitchen.
