This is a gift for a friend and it needs to make her feel wonderful. She in in her 20s, a curvy size 10/12 but wishes that she was slimmer. She would be wearing it with black jeans. Any ideas would be gratefully received. TIA

Nothing? I don't mind blowing the budget a bit but it needs to be fabulous - up to £200ish

Like a real shirt? With buttons and a collar? (forgive my daftness, dh calls all tops shirts). What about material? Not sure if this is near the mark:

Beautiful shirt Mrssmith. Very Gillian Anderson in The Fall!

Thanks Mrs Smith. That is lovely, but I was imagining something longer and looser - perhaps so that she could wear it open over another top. I would prefer a more intense colour too.
I am tempted by the Reiss top for myself!

The material needs to be light and flowing. Beyond that I don't really mind.

A loose bright shirt open over another top sounds a very odd thing for someone in their twenties to wear? I picture that on some one much older.

If you want an amazing colourful shirt that's young and funky, Tabitha Webb is the place to look - tabithawebb.co.uk/shop/

Is this the sort of thing you mean? www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Lauren+Ralph+Lauren+Allete+Shirt/250527224,default,pd.html

Certainly a shirt-for-jeans and certainly jewel coloured, but alas sold out in relevant size at HoF. But if it is the sort of thing you have in mind, perhaps you'll be able to track it down elsewhere?

You know what your friend likes, of course, and I shouldn't impose my tastes on others, but some jewel colours can be hard to wear.... I'd like a navy shirt like this, for example, but not a deep pink one.

She has an emerald green dress which she looks amazing in and also looks great in that intense cornflower blue so I am confident about those colours.
Paper doll has made me question the whole idea tbh. I am much older than my friend - maybe I have got it horribly wrong Confused

Thanks for all the other ideas. The Winser shirts are lovely but the colours are a bit muted. I will go and have a look round the Ralph Lauren site - Good idea

Has she hinted at a shirt?
You are a very nice friend Smile

Aww you sound lovely! Very kind of you yes, but has she hinted wanting something like this? The pink shirt above is amazing and looks chic with dark jeans, I would wear it (I'm 29) if pink suited me. Green or blue more my colours. But a loose flowy bright shirt open over a tshirt is a much older look.

I thought Ted Baker might have something but the only bright item is a dress

Thank you all for your help - so kind!
I can't really give away too much about the circumstances, as it is not my story to tell, but it is for a specific event where she wants to be very noticeable in a good way! She feels that she looks best in jeans so the top needs to stand out.

Would a silk top, rather than a buttoned shirt be a better option?
You sound like a really lovely friend.

Have you tried Kettlewell, they do brightly coloured tops (colour analysis type clothes).

I am still lusting after the Reiss one that Mrssmith linked earlier! What about any of these. m.johnlewis.com/gerard-darel-calypso-blouse/p/3148207

So many lovely ideas! I just don't think we have quite found "the one".
Maybe I am suggesting the wrong thing. A silk top might be better. She doesn't suit high necklines though.
I know that this doesn't fit my brief at all, but what do we think about this?
