Small backpacks - silly or not?

Morning all,
I am having bag troubles. I like small cross body bags but can't fit all of DS' stuff in them. I don't think bigger cross body bags are flattering or comfortable.
I have a large backpack for when I take all the DC out but I'm wondering about getting a small backpack to take to playgroup etc. I would just need to put in my purse and phone, wipes, nappy and drink.
Do you think I will look daft? I'm mod 30s. Have you seen any nice ones?
All the mums I see have shoulder bags but they never stay on my shoulders and I fear bending down to talk to DC and walloping them in the face!

Not at all. I have three small leather rucksacks now for this reason

I'm a big fan. They leave two hands for toddler wrangling with the added advantage of being better for you back.

For work I have a Radley and for weekends I use a small one a bit like this I bought on ebay

I always use backpacks - about the size of the ones slug mentions.

I keep looking at such things but always end up buying yet another handbag instead lol!

I think a cross-body bag looks so much better.

Really Yourround? I'm short and I feel ok with a small cross body bag but feel a bigger one looks wrong and it tends to highlight one boob I find!

Orla Kiely does two sizes and they don't look 'rucksacky'. Not cheap though, even when reduced. But if you really love a particular pattern then they're worth it.

Everyone in this city seems to have the kanken by fjallraven for exactly this.

I don't think you will look daft.

I use a Longchamp Le Pliage rucksak that I bought in JLewis in sale last year for £29 - it is great and suits my needs.

I also like some of the Orla Kiely bags and when they have a great sale these can be affordable options for me.

I'm short with large boobs - cross body bags look awful on me!

I often use one, not quite as stylish but much better for your posture and so you look better overall. Just get a grown-up leather style one, otherwise it looks a bit school tour.

Thanks ladies. I was debating getting a rucksack cause my back always hurts from the amount of shite I stuff into my crossbody bag.
I love the ones mentioned by slug and think I'll add the Radley one to my Christmas list.
