Stained teeth

My teeth have started to stain really badly. I went to the hygienist in August and already they're almost as bad as they were before. What can I do? I don't smoke, I floss and use an electric toothbrush.

I drink 1 cup of coffee and a couple of cups of tea per day. I guess I have to give these up. What can I replace them with?

Avoid fruit teas as apparently these are worse than normal tea. I read that using coconut oil as a mouth wash can really help with staining. Apparently this is a centuries old remedy as used by American Indians. How effective this is I don't know but worth a try. There is a company on line who sell sachets of coconut oil for this purpose however you can probably get the same results by buying a good quality one and just using a little straight from the jar. I've often thought of teeth whitening but don't like the thought of all that bleach in my mouth and I already have sensitive teeth which bleaching apparently can make much worse. My teeth are not white as I was prescribed tetricycline antibiotics as a child and they didn't realise that this discoloured teeth when they are developing in the gums, do I understand how you feel. I'd love to have pearly whites.

I can recommend the eucryl tooth powder for getting rid of stains you'll be able to get in some of the independent chemists only costs about £1

Tea stains things. Crest Whitestrips help a lot - At least the US type. I use them regularly.

White glo toothpaste, I use the smokers one. Shifts any stains, I was nearly crying at the hygienist as I had to keep going back but that's the only toothpaste that got rid within two brushes. Wouldn't use it every day but it's great for once a week or so

I've read an article just this week about 'oil pulling', which is what boots addict is talking about. Popular in India for centuries apparently. It significantly increases the amount of bacteria in your mouth and sounds vile.

Eucryl powder here too, no way I'm giving up tea and coffee.

Oil pulling is babble - any site that says otherwise is trying to flog it, and will be full of the usual horseshit about 'helps improve appearance ' .

Dentists can safely whiten teeth to a reasonable level. Going american will give you the piano key look, which is especially ludicrous on older faces. If you watched cold feet check out Robert Bathurst for an example.

Eucryl used to be sold as the 'smokers' toothpaste'. I don't know enough about it but I'd be wary of using anything too abrasive in case it's taking off the enamel which will only make your teeth more porous and stain more easily. have you asked the hygienist for advice or the dentist- or thought about teeth whitening at the dentists?

I've been oil pulling for 3 months, its made a difference even my mum noticed it, don't bother with the sachets though, sainsburies virgin coconut oil foes the same thing! 4.95 for a big tub that lasts a month rather than 15 quid for 14 days supply.
