DD(10) has sdodgy ankles, basically bad sprain a few years back which despite extensive physio means the wrong shoes affect the way she walks. I think she has quite wide fitting feet that mean she tends to size up to fit. Her school mates are wearing slip ons (which she recognises as being rubbish) and much more sensible brogues. (sadly kickers are "boy shoes" at her school).

Usually we go with shoe zones brogues as previously they have met physio suggestions and they were about the only show we could vaguely agree on. However she recognises that the last pair were a disaster and weren't good for her ankle at all. Ricostta brogues and Geox generally just don't fit. Asda tesco etc seem to all be slip ons at her size.

This time she is trying desperately to be sensible, she's even looking seriously at the kickers boots I need to return because they looked like brogues on the Internet photo but aren't. I'd love to find her something trendier especially as she is trying to be so sensible.

Griffin Monty I know falls into the deeply unfashionable and totally arbitrary category because I was trying to talk her into a very similar pair of Dr Ms.

she's in Dr Martens at home if she is walking anywhere. Both of us would love Dr Martens for school, but apparently the shoes are a big no no fashion wise and boots generally are banned unless you have special permission (DS has but he is permanently under physio). I am considering asking permission for boots as she walks so much better in them but want to check in have exhausted other options that fit the rules first.

She fits primark wide fitting well, I tend to buy party shoes from there cos you don't use them much and they don't tend to last long. are there school type shoes any good? (Opposite direction on where I was planning to head tomorrow)

I'd definitely order online for new look as the range is really limited in shop. Not sure how long they last from primark-if you get the chunkier ones I'm sure they'd do a term. If they fit and she likes them, buy two pairs?

DD is 14 and I never have any idea what's acceptable and what's not!

You are most fortunate!! Dr Martens for casual I have talked her into being a trend setter on. and now she wears on school trips in front of mates with relish.... I am trying to get her to do the same with kickers but she's not biting yet

Marks and Spencer have some decent looking school shoes that go up to size 7 and seem fairly wide, may be worth a look. Some very Dm style lace ups in the girls section today. My DD 9 nearly 10 thought they were great (but she's not the most fashion conscious)

Haggis some of those brogues definitely would pass the fashion test. I'll take a look at there shoes generally tomorrow and see if the brogues are generally physio friendly and then order online.

order a couple of cheap pairs kinda has been the way we have gone the last couple of years, it's been a compromise as she wouldn't wear the shoes I wanted her in so didn't see the pint in spending a load of money. However the last pair had her walking with her foot turned totally in. I would have gone back to physio if the problem didn't disappear the second she put on any other pair of shoes. She has kinda recognised now that shoes that cripple her are no good and I'm really concerned I don't make the same mistake again.....

Dd is 14 & has size 2.3/3 wide fitting feet. High instep has a tendency to roll but extensive ballet/physio means she controls it much better now.

Slip ins are a huge no no.

Anyway Start Rite Angry Angel brogues fit he beautifully & are very supportive. They are pricey but have lasted well (the pair we bought last September don't need replacing yet)

Slip on shoes are banned at her school & brogues are very fashionable amongst dds peers but dr martins & Clarks don't fit her properly.

I think we might be a year or two behind the times in our area... (oh the irony of keeping up with children who are already behind the times ) I am absolutely holding my breath for Dr Martens shoes to arrive at our school, they would be perfect.

I have to admit that it's been much easier for dd going to a school where slip on shoes are banned than if she'd gone to her brother's school where they are rife (in yr 7 & 8 she had to wear Mary Janes before start rite brought out a wide fit in the brogues)

Thought I'd update. We started off looking at Brogues in new look but after seeing some very trendy young thing trying on Dr Martens style buckles and realising how good they looked, there was a rapid change of direction .

We ended up with these. Very happy daughter and exceptionally happy mummy. Massive change from shoe shopping usually.
