Does the cold weather make you not care about looking nice?

These last few months I've really let myself go.
Don't care what I look like
Think it's the cold weather

Hell yes.

Not at all. Still get hair cut, pedicures, wear makeup and actually look better in winter clothes than summer ones.

I look better in winter clothes too

But I don't bother grooming underneath the clothes - no pedicures, barely shave.

Still look better than the florid, sweaty mess that is summer Hmm

Yeah I make less effort in winter, haven't shaved my legs for ages or painted my toenails! I will make an effort for a night out or something but all too often I step outside and it's freezing and/or pouring with rain so my hair etc soon looks crap anyway.

Don't get pedicures in winter, I try to give my nails a bit of a break and lose the taint of colour I take more care of my skin as the heat / cool cycle in and out of heated places seems to require More moisture

Rest of it stays put much easier to maintain a habit annually than stop and start so quite lazy really!

Nope. Cold weather means cashmere jumpers and scarves, dark nails, sheepskin lined leather boots, down filled jackets and good face / body oils (although use these year round). Also do my own weekly mani / pedi and home facials to combat the weather. Plus continue to wax legs and bikini plus get brows threaded.

I like beauty products and find using them around a hot, candle lit bath to be very relaxing.

100%! I always look so pale and dumpy and scruffy in the winter... And then the sun starts to return and I start to make more of an effort and enjoy the way I look a bit more! I'm sure it's some kind of biological hibernation type thing.

Beautiful boots and coats. What's not to like?
Summer is fine if it is actually nice, cue summer dresses and flip flops but more often it's wet, cold or muggy and I'm always thinking what the hell do I wear?

No I look much better in winter.

Nice leather boots, smart winter coats, nice hat and scarf sets.

Much better than having to wear awful flimsy light clothes in summer!

I do kinda let myself go over winter. I desperately need a hair cut and my skin dries out with the cold 😞

I find it easier to dress though - some decent jeans and a coat and that's all anyone sees anyway

I rarely see someone look stylish in summer clothes.

I think winter clothes are fab. I wish there was no summer.

Point in case: I'm currently on my firm's annual winter break. I'm wearing very unflattering loose cut jeans (because I can wear two pairs of tights and leggings underneath), bright green knitted wool socks, UGG boots, a shapeless wooly jumper over three shirts and a nice but colour wise totally mismatched skiing jacket. My hair is also a complete mess thanks to my hat being on and off all day and I've ditched the makeup for sunscreen.

Would I look like shit in order to keep warm? You bet!

Ah, but, Magical true style is dressing to one's surroundings.

Totally not, that's what hot weather does. I can't deal with wearing makeup and having hair down in 30 degree + heat when I'm hot and sweaty!!

It doesn't make me care any less. I am the wintery complexioned sort of person who looks so much better wrapped up in loads of deeply coloured wool and wearing big boots, though. I hate how summery clothes look and feel on me.

I love winter really miss it. I'm working overseas and we don't get much of a winter. I'm the opposite I give up in a hot and humid climate why bother when your hair turns to frizz, make up slides off? I look so much better in a cold climate.

I am utterly bored of all my winter clothes. Am going to fake tan and do nails today.

Belikethat · 13/03/2016 07:26

Definitely. I dress far more practically in the winter eg on the school run (I walk) I just want to be dry and warm.

I feel the cold so I am always in layers and big jumpers and scarves which are not always flattering. I am small but look bulky in winter clothes.

I went to a football match recently and you wouldn't believe how many layers I had on as I would have frozen to death otherwise.

Can't wait for spring/summer and dressing in one layer and feeling comfortable.

PollyPerky · 13/03/2016 08:17

No.

I like to wear nice cashmere snoods and scarves, nice chunky boots, lovely gloves, wool dresses, thick tights, warm wool coats etc. In fact I hate summer clothes as they tend to be poorer quality.

AyeAmorok I'm from Newcastle and that's cold enough ha ha.
See I don't like hot hot weather but I like spring when it's around 15-16 degrees and you can wear nice blazers and blouses but in the winter I just wear a ugly green Parker with uggs,
I think I need to snap out of it.
I've just ordered a nice cream waterfall jacket which I'm planning on wearing with dark skinny jeans and tan ankle boots and maybe a nice white blouse.
I've not been feeling like myself lately and meet a pamper.

I'm from the far, far North and waves of warm weather are hitting us - it is 0C and I am wearing my white winter coat, pale denim boyfriends and light blue Clark's desert boots Wink

Clothes-wise no. I still like to wear what suits me regardless of the season. However, I don't bother with pedicures in winter. I keep my toenails trimmed of course, but don't wear polish as no-one sees them. I epilate my legs less frequently in winter as well.

I don't "get" people who say that summer clothes don't suit them. The assumption is that all summer clothes are skimpy and flimsy. They aren't. There are clothes to suit all shapes and sizes regardless of the weather.

Roll on summer.

I don't like summer clothes - too flimsy and the colours are terrible on me.
On the other hand I love really layering up for winter. Autumn, winter and spring clothes are much nicer, in my opinion. And ankle boots are the best invention.

"I don't like summer clothes - too flimsy and the colours are terrible on me."

But they don't have to be, and the colours aren't all pastels. You get a wide range of colours in summer clothes as well as winter ones. You aren't looking in the right places. You are making massive assumptions here.

Report
YaySirNaySir · 13/03/2016 09:47

It's not about colour for me my sundresses are navy, bluey purple and grey and I have a black maxi. Pastels make me look dead and I don't suit a lot of bright colours either.
I like to wear sandals or flip flops but that only seems to happen for a few weeks. If it's raining I've learned just to go back to wearing ankle boots. Flats shoes, brogues, ballet pumps etc aren't me at all. Might get some leather converse though.
