Help me, my hairdresser is a numpty

Had highlights two weeks ago. I've been HOC'd, so said a million times over 'cool, ashy tones please'. Told him everything that had been done to my hair before (not much, a brown demi perm).

Highlights turned out very brassy and more vibrant toward the roots. I went back to him to put right. He put a cool shade of toner on my hair for 25 minutes, rinsed it off and ... it's no longer just my highlights, my entire head is ORANGE! What happened?! If he'd just said, 'there is an ever-so slight risk that this procedure will make you look like Ginger Spice,' I would have left it.

My best friend gets married in two weeks. Everyone I've ever known or met will be there. Is there anything I can do? I am purple shampooing (and weeping) at the moment, but it's not doing much...

Go to a different hairdresser. Get recommendations from friends. I assume you haven't paid your existing hairdresser for the fuck up? I've been through this recently and it is just not worth trying to fix it yourself. Good luck. It made me cry when it happened to me!!

I generally would rather gnaw my own arm off than ask for my money back. Also, we use him for DS and DH's hair so I don't want to burn my bridges entirely. However, I might need the cash for the next hairdresser, then.

Ok i'd try a tube of Colour Freedom Semi Permenant Silver Blonde over my whole head. Its £7ish from Superdrug, you will need a whole tube but if your hair is long maybe two tubes. Have damp hair then apply it with your hands (gloves on) all over like conditioner and leave it on for 30-60 minutes then wash out. Its semi permanent and takes out yellow tones, works really really well.

oh no! have you tried a touch of silver shampoo? thats pretty effective. what a terrible hairdresser! there is no way you should have paid. politely but firmly ask for your money back so you can get a real professional to fix it. that one is evidently useless!

What I don't understand is why it's lighter. It was mid brown before and now it's kind of sandy gingery all over. Surely a toner doesn't lighten hair? Are there any hairdressers who know what's happened to me??

Wash your hair repeatedly with Head and Shoulders.

Go back, complain to the manager and get your money back.
If they manage to convince you they ca n correct it, then do that - otherwise go to a hairdresser who knows what they are doing for colour correction.
Don't mess about with it yourself at this stage.

Yes, mine got fixed by the new hairdresser. It was a different type of colouring disaster to yours but hairdresser who knows what they are doing will be able to fix it. Mine knew she'd fucked up and only charged for the cut but as I needed two colour treatments to fix it, I was still out of pocket a bit. Didn't mind as I wasn't prepared to walk round looking like an idiot but took some annoying rebudgeting. Don't take the kids back there either. If they took your money for doing a crap job then they sound a shonky bunch.

Yes yes yes to head and shoulders. I had an absolute disastrous die job courtesy of my friend who's a hairdresser. I nodded politely at the orange/pink streaks she'd given me then burst out crying in the car!

I washed my hair over 20 times with head and shoulders and it actually ended up looking lovely.
