Is this Boden dress hideous or nice?

I'm not sure.

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Smart-Day-Dresses/WH803-DGR/Womens-Viridian-Stencil-Floral-Ursula-Dress.html?NavGroupID=4 Yellow and navy.

I am quite desperate for another day dress if it's really hot again - smart casual, more casual. I suit shift styles. This is a 10 is a tiny bit loose but probably comfy if it's hot. 8 is out of stock.
I am 5 3" so quite petite, blonde shoulder length hair, arms are not great so would have to buy a cardi I think in navy.

Is the pattern really horrible or quite nice?

I quite like it actually, but I can guarantee that plenty of people will come and say it's horrible and by the end of the day you'll most likely have a 50/50 split. Do Boden dresses fit you well? I always find the waist is in an odd place.

I love the colour and the pattern is pretty too.

I really like it and I like the black and orange one even more.

It's too long for me. I like that style of dress to be slightly higher above the knee (but not mid thigh!). I find Boden dress lengths to be hit and miss which can make the difference between yes and frumpsville-, I'm 5'7".

I think whether it's nice or not depends on your age tbh

Lovely.

Hmmm. My experience of Boden is that that particular style will be sack-like and a bit frumpy. I also don't think that mint green colour goes with ivory.

Sorry Grin.

I think on the right figure, right length, it'd look great!

It's an okay fit. The bust couldn't be much smaller on me though there is a bit of excess material from the bust down to the waist - it could do with some long darts under the nipples to the waist! It is very much a shift style with no real waist but it's on the small side for a 10- usually I find the hips are too wide on Boden things. I'm a 28 waist but only 36 hips. Tempted to order the 8 but only long in stock so would need to shorten.

The pattern is bigger and bolder than I am used to and does scream BODEN but it's all cotton and unlike many other dresses it's lined in cotton not silly, hot polyester.

Paid it's the yellow and navy version.

Trip what age is it suitable for then?

I don't do age! I am late 50s but told I look 40-45. (sorry not a stealth boast just saying.)

The green is lovely (but can't see what the back looks like and if it's plain white I'd say no- it needs pattern) the other colours are hideous!

But I can't wear Boden. I have a sizeable bust and tiny waist. I need an 18 for boobs there but a 12 for torso. So fuck you very much Boden! Wink

I think it's good for your age Smile I know the whole age thing can be contentious, but I keep seeing young women being recommended Boden stuff but when you look at the reviews most of them are from women between 50 and 65

I like it though I often have to go 1-2 sizes smaller in Boden and have their stuff taken up (I'm 5'7 but apple shaped so stuff that covers my legs completely don't do me many favours) which you can't with that dress without ruining the pattern.

I really like it. I can't find Boden dresses that fit me well as I seem to have my waist in an odd place based on their styles.

I'm not so keen on the ivory/green colour way but the other colours combos are really nice.

It's a bit Boden'y but that wouldn't bother me too much.

I love dresses, they look smart and comfortable.

i often don't post of these sort of topics as usually everyone is saying nice things and i truly think its hideous but just keep quiet.

But on this occasion i think the dress is truly lovely Smile a lovely nice dress to war on a hot summers day, perfect!.

It's very pretty.

I'd be tempted by it myself but Boden is just not cut for me.

Oh- how exciting! So far only a couple of no-nos.
I have sent for the size 8 to compare fit though as it's only available in Long I'd have to shorten, but it's a simple style to sew and I'm handy with a needle. In the navy colourway you won't 'lose' the pattern. I do like the red too but as I'm very fair it would overwhelm my colouring.

I agree that Boden sizing can be all over the place.

The thing that stops me ordering more from Boden (are you listening, Johnnie?) is that you really do have to try things on to find out whether they'll suit/fit you. I ordered a lot of stuff from the sale, and it cost me £17 in total, for the privilege of trying on a box of things in various sizes that looked great on the website but like jazzy sacks on me, then sending it all back.

To be fair, there is usually a code around somewhere for free P&P on Mnet. I never ever order without a code unless something is low stock and I really want it- and I save all my return labels so use if necessary. I think the hardest thing about ordering online is you can't feel the fabric and dresses etc are sometimes pinned back (I am sure) and look more fitted than in RL.

yeah, but... if you're not a regular Boden shopper you don't tend to have codes to hand! It's really put me off, to be honest, especially since nearly every other clothing retailer gives you free returns if they charge you for the initial postage.

This forum or the Promotions/ Codes forum on Mnet is good- usually a Boden code around.

Under distance selling laws you are entitled to a refund of all your postage if you return all the order within 7 days. sometimes you have to remind companies of this - I have and they stumped up.
