I've just bought this Autograph dress for £40 and it's really flattering

I know we're supposed to hate M&S on here but I've got some gems this season, including this black jersey dress. I'm wearing it with a skinny yellow leather belt. It is a little large so might need to size down. For me, it'd the perfect throw on dress for
Holidays, which I can dress up or dress down. Just thought I'd share

That does look nice.

I like that the model is wearing flats with it, makes it slightly more summery.

I was being daft Mama. There's just a lot of threads on M&S being a disaster (which it is on some things!!)

Does it have to be down? Synthetic works better in wet conditions //www.backcountry.com have some good deals with both down and synthetic parkas. //www.rei.com may have some good bargains in their outlet section as well.

I like it. I was in M and S a couple of weeks ago and found a few things that I liked. I bought this maxi dress the other week.

Being tall it made a nice change for it to be properly maxi and not halfway up my ankles. The colour really suits me as well. Sadly, it has been too cold to wear it yet.

That looks v white company -esque and about £50 cheaper. Good school run dress IMO.

I've just ordered these cool cropped jeans.

I saw a blogger wearing them and they looked brill.

I shop at the White company loads and this is indeed like something i would buy from there, but for half the price! I do think it looks better with a belt

M&S does get a good old slagging on here and rightly so IMO (and often hilariously so). Much like Boden. But you can still get the odd nice thing.

Did you mean my dress MrsSeanBean? When DD was at primary school I usually wore jeans to pick her up. I never subscribed to the idea of the "school run dress". I tend to wear maxis in the evening as they aren't very pratical for gardening, housework etc.

I think M&S is having a really good season. In fact, I've only bought from there this season - total so far:

Yellow smock-ish top (limited collection)
half sleeve t shirts (main collection)
white wide-legged trousers (main collection)
denim culottes with turnups (autograph)
long asymmetric shirt-dress (autograph)
tencel utility-style jumpsuit (autograph)

all have been superb value -- well made and reasonable fabrics for the kind of garment and the price. I've had loads of compliments on everything I've bought.

Burgh it's synthetic. I might have given it a try on if it was cotton, can't stand the feel of nylon on my torso specially in warm weather.

I tried the dress in the OP on at the weekend, and it was a disaster on me. Even the size 8 was huge on me (I could have fit 2 of me inside it) whilst another dress I tried on was tight in a ten and only just okay in a 12. Their sizing is ridiculous.

Sizing aside, it's a really nice dress at a good price. No good for holidays anywhere warm though, because of the fabric.

I've been really impressed with the improvement in M&S stylishness this season. Some really nice things.

I wish they didn't use polyester quite so much IME polyester clothes look good for 3 wears then get too much static and start to look cheap.

I've also been impressed, I also wish they did less synthetic but there is loads I'd actually wear. I also got this

I think the problem is that at the price points that consumers demand they can't use more expensive fabrics and still remain profitable.

This isn't a popular view on MN, but I think there's a lot to be said for polyester. It hangs well and washes well, takes colour well and comes in a wide range of weights and quality. I've got a pair of lined polyester trousers that have been going for years and hang absolutely beautifully, the most flattering pair of trousers I've ever had.

The tonic-length shit-dress I've just bought is polyester and it's lovely and floaty - and very cool. What's not to like?

"tonic-length shit-dress" = tunic-length shirt-dress!

I do despair at the synthetic fabrics in m&s - it often means I won't buy something even if I like the design. I would happily pay more for cotton or viscose.

What I don't understand is that m&s food is expensive and good quality, so surely m&s shoppers aren't generally insisting on new look prices? They probably appreciate quality and don't mind paying for it.

I've bought loads from there recently and am absolutely in love with the limited edition style 2 jeans for their fit (ankle zip and ripped hems) don't like the adornments but the fit is great for me. The 3rd photo of these jeans is exactly why they get things so wrong though...

I don't know why those M and S links don't work for me. Anyway I googled that jumper Oly4 and really like it.
