Serum that DOESN'T bring you out in spots?

Hi

I am almost 41 and have a pretty good daily regime: good cleanser, good resurfacer (?), good moisturiser, good eye cream, then finished with good SPF. All Jan Marini, except for the eye cream (Guinot). All seem to work well for me, but I would like to add a serum to my regime.

However the 3 that I have tried (over past 12+ months), have brought me up in varying amounts of acne:

  • Avon A33 (some spots)
  • Jan Marini C-ESTA (terrible acne)
  • No 7 (even worse acne)

I have now cut them out for the past couple of months and spots/acne have all but dusappeared! A couple of mild ones related to hormonal cycles, but nothing close to the big, angry, really painful ones that I had on the serums...

I would like to find a serum that works, but not at the cost of being an acne covered term again.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, but found one that works without the acne?

Thanks

Do you know if those three serums have silicone in them?

Why don't you try a face oil instead? One without silicone. Clarins and Decleor do nice ones or Boots Botanics do a much cheaper one which looks quite good.

What do you want the serum to do?

I use jan marini bioglycolic and love it. Clears and plumps my skin

Off topic but I read that as 'sperm' instead of 'serum' Xmas Blush

Used to have similar problems, am 41, now have been adult acne free for a year. An acne-neutral serum for me is Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum. It is a mix of water, silicone and possibly alcohol and fantastic for my skin - slightly moisturizing and plumping and a great prep product too. It gives me an even base without the shrink-wrapped feel I get from primers. It's moisturizing enough for me so I no longer need facial moisturizers.

Oils gave me cystic acne, and moisturizers maintained low-level inflammation (jawline and mouth and chin area breakouts). The scarring was worse than the breakouts as it made my skin tone really uneven. Finally, getting rid of greasy products totally cleared my skin. Everything I now use is oil-free and my skin is the best I've ever had. I don't even get the 'hormonal' spots any more! I don't need concealer any more and can even go out bare-faced Wink

You should think through whether you actually need a serum. For me, it is a good prep layer (the next layers are a thin layer of mineral foundation and a spray of water to set it) in winter but during the sunny season I apply a fluid high SPF sunscreen (it has a slippy feel, so some silicones in it) and skip the serum altogether.
