The house is a total and utter mess so I thought I would count my clothes grin.

I have been shocked to the very core of my being. I like to think I am not materialistic, and don't go doolally over clothes like some people do. But..........

Hats 2

Gloves 3

Scarves 14

Coats/Jackets 9

Tops 49 omg

Skirts 6

Trousers 7

Jumpers 14

Leggings 6

Tights 1

Knickers 15

Bras 4

Night clothes 4

Socks 31 pairs

Vests 11

Shoes 16.

Of all that, I live in one coat, one pair of jeans, two pairs of shoes, three jumpers, one scarf and about seven tops. I accept that anyone looking at the S&B board is likely to have more than an average interest in clothes but how does that list compare to your wardrobe?

Mrswellyboot Sat 12-Apr-14 17:49:00

NotALondoner Sat 12-Apr-14 17:51:07

Hmm so less than me then, Mrs Welly Boot. Do you wear all of your clothes equally?

OneLittleLady Sat 12-Apr-14 17:51:35

I don't have exact figures for everything but I know I have over 40 skirts blush

Mrswellyboot Sat 12-Apr-14 17:54:58

I really culled a lot. Only have what I wear really. I do try and wear it all or it goes in the zippy underbed storage bag and every now and then I go through it and give stuff to SIL (post baby and doesnt want to shop yet) or charity

CointreauVersial Sat 12-Apr-14 17:55:10

There are not enough hours in the day for me to be able to count everything.

Too much of everything is the answer.

And I am rubbish at throwing stuff out, so I have lots that I don't wear any more.

Mrswellyboot Sat 12-Apr-14 17:55:48

I am going I get rid of more. Have a few jumpers too. Coats are my favourite.

BackforGood Sat 12-Apr-14 17:58:08

Not enough hours in the day to want to count everything but OP's list sounds fair to me. I've probably got a LOt more items of footwear than that though, if you count all boots, wellies, slippers, sandals, trainers, pumps, etc as well as shoes.
Oh, and you haven't mentioned dresses.

Livingwithminecraftaddicts Sat 12-Apr-14 17:58:39

I couldnt even begin to count. It would take me a day or more to go through my dressing room! I don't care if its too much. I don't like to clear out very often and space is not an issue.

Shosha1 Sat 12-Apr-14 18:02:35

I would dread to think! But I know I have

27 pairs of shoes
11 pairs of ankle boots
3 pairs of long boots
1 walking Boots
1 trainers
3 pairs of wellies

11 pairs of jeans
9 pairs if leggings
6 knitted dresses
7 long cardigans
10 white t shirts

That's just what I wear to work as a nanny

Oh and dozens of scarfs, hats and gloves.

Bags????? I really couldn't say as DH might find out smile

NotALondoner Sat 12-Apr-14 18:06:23

Over 40 skirts? I don't know whether to say oh dear or respect!

I don't have any dresses as such - I have four very long tops that some might wear as mini dresses but I don't want anyone to feel ill so I wear them as tops over trousers.

And I have quite a lot of stuff - maybe 15 items??? in my sewing basket and about another 15 that are too small to currently wear, but hopefully they will come into circulation in the next year or so.

Shall I put all my favourites in storage so I am forced to wear other stuff? Iyt's all nice pleasant stuff but I just reach for my 'uniform' day after day.

NotALondoner Sat 12-Apr-14 18:08:16

Oh and one more pair of boots that I wear in the snow and mud.

OneLittleLady Sat 12-Apr-14 18:08:35

nota in my defense, I rarely wear jeans or trousers so have very few of those, even in winter I wear skirts or dresses blush

LulaPalooza Sat 12-Apr-14 18:52:30

Oh God. I have no idea... last summer I took 3 full bin bags of clothe, shoes and bags (some unworn/ unused) to the charity shop plus 1 full bag to the clothes recycling place (too tatty for the charity shop) I STILL have way too much stuff... and don't wear half of it. Sigh.

Glossolalias Sat 12-Apr-14 19:23:51

I couldn't even begin to count... I once bayed at least 50 things and it looked like I'd taken nothing out of my cupboard!

Financeprincess Sat 12-Apr-14 19:26:41

Hurrah! At last, somebody with more skirts than me (I am looking at Onelittlelady).

Housemum Sat 12-Apr-14 19:41:02

So, on the flip side how many items do we actually need? I often programmes set in the 60s or before, when obviously there had been clothes rationing and shortages, and think how people did manage without heaving armfuls of clothing home from Primark and buying new stuff every year. Anyone like to put together the ultimate number of clothes? I have stopped buying shoes and will wear the ones I have until they wear out, only replacing from need (eg I need flattish black shoes for work but only one pair not the 4 I have now) - but that will be a LONG time. In my dreams I would like to have loads of money and buy a (sorry, I hate this phrase) "capsule wardrobe" and just wear a small selection of clothes all the time, accessorised nicely.

OneLittleLady Sat 12-Apr-14 19:58:13

<looks guiltily at *financeprincess> I have been collecting them for years!

Financeprincess Sat 12-Apr-14 21:37:26

So have I, but I've only got 31. I must catch up.

Re capsule wardrobe: good in theory, but I would get bored of wearing the same stuff, plus I am really good at dropping food on things. You need back-ups for when your favourites are at the dry cleaner!

Pixiepie Sat 12-Apr-14 21:43:03

Far too much!!! Not sure of exact figures but i have like over 20 pair of jeans!!! I have no idea why!!! Keep meaning to clear them out. I cant possibly wear them all!!

Calamitously Wrong that is what I thought my list would look like, only with fewer dresses and more tops. I am genuinely surprised at the amount of stuff I had when I counted.
