A friend is trying to talk me into having a brazillian bikini wax. Are they still as popular as they used to be? How painful can it be?

Well according to my local salon, the hipsters are now going for a bit more coverage- all off underneath but more at the front. Hollywoods no longer v popular, brazilians still fairly so.

Key thing is that they use hot wax not strip wax.

A "special" friend? Not sure why your friend would care what your bikini area is like!

I go bikini line rather than full Monty personally but definitely hot wax. Pain level often depends on beautician, some are just better at it than others.

I used to have Brazilians. I stopped because I thought the pain may have been doing me actual psychological harm. And that is only a very slight exaggeration. Not worth it IMO. I have bikini line done now and that's quite enough torture thank you.

If you take painkillers first and have hot wax then its not too bad.......though the occasional tear has slipped out with me before!

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I've been having brazilians for years, with strip wax, and it hardly ever hurts that much. Occasionally have tried the hot wax but it takes twice as long and I don't think makes a lot of difference. Apart from to price.

I really think the pain factor lies in the skill of the waxer.

I don't have a high pain threshold and am quite wimpy about plucking my eyebrows!

What is strip wax? I used to get my legs done with hot wax ripped off with a cloth. Is that strip wax?

Yeah wips the wax you get on your legs is just normal wax and it's removed with strips, hot wax is applied and then peeled off by hand but I don't know the actual difference but I do know that hot wax is less painful on sensitive areas

Dunno about popularity but I have brazilians and although the first was agony subsequent ones have been much less painful. Pain threshold changes according to time of month and also, for me was lower when I was hungover. The worst bits are as the waxing nears more sensitive areas, obviously. Look for a lycon wax salon.
