Work trousers for a 5'3" pear shape?

Hi
I am down to one pair of black work trousers having been on mat leave and nothing previous fits.
I'm having trouble finding nice trousers to fit my shape & height. I'm on the short side, 5'3" and size 12ish. Waist quite small but hips/bottom larger so I find trousers either too tight on bottom or gaping at the waist.

Please can anyone of similar proportions tell me where you get your work trousers? I'd prefer not black and also if you could tell me what shoes you wear with them as I'm clueless about all this having been off work for a bit.

NEXT have a few options in their petite section. I'm making do with the high waist ones. M&S are usually good too but I haven't summoned to energy (nor do I have time) to go through their various sections and try things on. Same goes for Debenhams. BHS might be worth a try.

I'll second Next. I'm a similar height and shape to you and I got some lovely grey work trousers from the Next Petite range.

Yegods I know what you mean about time. We went to M&S last weekend and dh managed to distract dc's for all of about 15 mins so I could trouser hunt. I grabbed a few to try on but the fit wasn't right.
Next trousers have fitted me well before so I will have a look for the grey ones.
What shoes do you wear with them? I can't wear high heels so would need something mid heel or lower but worried this will look frumpy?

I found a range at Brantano that fit and so I have a few different colours. They are simple court shoes with a bar over the top (I need that as have a high instep and shoes just fall off otherwise.) Otherwise, low boots or even smart mules if I'm in a hurry.

I'm a smaller dress size but also 5'3" and pear shaped and I find the Martin fit at Banana Republic good.

Thanks mycat can you order them online?

Yep - the BR site is pretty good. I usually buy standard length and shorten them but they have some petite ranges online too.

Thanks. I would be interested to know what style you go for if you are a shortish pear? There are so many styles these days. I think bootcut suit my shape best but I do find with these there can be a lot of trouser material flapping around my ankles! What style suits this shape best?

Most of mine are a fairly slim bootcut which avoids the flapping material - this is the type I have from BR. I also have some cropped Martin fit pants which look surprisingly good on a shortarse person but have to be worn with heels.

I'm similar shape to you, Jemster. Style advice is invariably that bootcut is the most flattering for my shape but I have yet to find a pair of bootcut trousers that look good on me without heels - added to which they need to be pointed toe & slender heels. I have a fairly lengthy walk to work & my office is surrounded by a cobbled courtyard so slender heels don't work. I find cigarette trousers or fairly straight legs to be the best option for my shape combined with low heels or flat shoes. Best sources so far have been Jigsaw, Brora & Me&em - but all in the sales as they are expensive full price. I don't like polyester - has anyone tried People Tree trousers as they do some clothes that cope with curves.

Monsoon short leg

I'm same height

It's horrid having to get trousers taken up all the time etc,

I also HATE cropped trousers (well I don't but it's all I could find for all of last year, and as I changed size, I was aaarh)

So - my favourites

  1. Monsoon short leg (but only the ones with buttons on the back pockets) - size 1 size down I think from normal

  1. Jigsaw

Bought 2 pairs of plain black trousers here recently with % off thing. Both lengths are perfect on me with flat shoes and flattering on.

  1. BR trousers - but here I am still between lengths in classic trousers, so you can get away with petite but if want to wear shoes rather than ballet pumps etc, go for regular length and alter or wear with heels.Size down to a ridiculous degree, eg 2-3 sizes

  1. J Crew but £ in UK relative to US. Tried on some and they fitted well and were so so comfortable
