I love handbags and have started collecting designer bags I've got a mulberry hobo and now after saving and putting in birthday and Christmas money I would like a Louis Vuitton.I live in the back of beyond so unfortunately I will be ordering online as we have crap shops round here I was thinking of a speedy or never full do any of you own these and which would you recommend? Do they wear well as they seem to be canvas(I always thought they were leather) I've managed to save in the region of £1000 which is a lot of money for me so don't want to get it wrong.my son is a teenager so I don't have to carry heaps of stuff about anymore so I'm interested to hear your opinions xxx

TBBH I think there are so very many fakes about now that any mere mortal carrying a real, commonly copied, designer bag looks just as cheap as the next woman whose bag is, in fact, fake.

magic I'm really loving the never full, and thinking of getting one,
I used to own a lovely speedy, great bag, used it for over 10 years, and was still in good condition when I ebayed it ,
Yes they are copied, but they are very well made,it will last longer.
Are you thinking of the epi leather or monogram?

LittleBearPad · 22/02/2014 19:06

I love the epi leather. The never full looks great.

Unfortunately I'm useless at anything technical and don't know how to put up links but I've been looking on the official uk Louis Vuitton website and I'm looking at the monochrome speedy 25 and the never full pm as I'm very petite at 5ft 1 and look swamped by anything to large.im also aware of a lot of fakes about and to be honest as long as I know mine is genuine I'm not bothered what others think I've never understood people buying fakes as it would take the magic of owning a fabulous bag away and before anyone calls me a stuck up snob I'm not rolling in money but I don't drink or smoke and very rarely go out so bags are my little bit of joy in life

Have a look at naughtypigeonnest! Shain sells used designer bags, I recently bought a mulberry alexa from her and it was in perfect condition at less than half price!

I have a LV speedy 25 and have been using it for 15yrs and love it! Also love my little cross body and Pappilon from LV, they are virtually indestructible!

You could get a couple of bags for 1k!

Depending on what you'll be using it for, if it's a functional everyday bag I'd go for a speedy b 25 in Damier Ebene. Not a fan of the monogram personally.

A neverfull mm or totally different an epi alma bb in a nice bright colour.

My speedy has been going 8 years still looks good as new Smile let us know which you choose!

magicgirl74 Im small. And I have the Neverfull GM in Damier Ebene. I wouldnt get the the Neverfull PM it is TINY.

Same with the Speedy I have the Speedy 35 and I certainly wouldnt go smaller.

If you have a £1000 why not put an extra £600 and purchase the Chanel Cerf Tote?

If you fancy a speedy it is worth buying the speedy B style so that you get the strap making the bag so much easier to wear and use.

Report
magicgirl74 · 25/02/2014 14:59

I was looking at getting the speedy with the strap to give me the option of having it on my shoulder and having looked more closely at the neverfull I'm a bit worried about it being so open as our nearby town has a bit of a problem with pickpockets :-(

I'm with Mrs Lettuce on this one. LV bags are so heavily faked that I assume that every one I see is counterfeit. Put the cash into an ISA or a pension fund instead!

You would buy a bag liner for the Neverfull they are available online.

SuperWifeANDMum · 25/02/2014 17:49

Agree with PP, the Neverfull is fabulous in the Damier Ebene. You can purchase bag liners from ebay which help keep the bag nice and structured. I would agree with Puddles the Neverfull PM is tiny as is the speedy 25.

If you have £1000 to spend what has made you choose Louis Vuitton?

I've always liked lv but I like other bags too I'm trying to buy classic timeless bags as I'm hoping to have them for many years I've also been looking at the new Gucci Jackie bag and a balenciaga city bag and a few others I'm nearly 40 so don't want to look like I'm desperately trying to hang onto my youth I'm also very petite so don't want to be swamped by an enormous bag xx

I wouldn't buy one without seeing it in the flesh. I know you said you live away from a store but the bags really do come up differently than in the pictures. As a pp suggested, sizing is really hard to judge (agree that the neverfull pm is tiny). I saved for ages for my first one - planned a speedy 30 and came out with a delightful! I just wasn't sure about the speedy. The artsy is gorgeous ( I have it in azur and use it in the summer).

Yay a bag thread AND someone has already said you should put in towards a pension Grin

I think the new Gucci Jackie is gorgeous and yummy colours too.

But I think you should spend a train fare to a big city with a dept store like Selfridges or equivalent to stroke and try lots of different ones - this is far too important a purchase to buy online without trying! I thought I wanted one bag, got really obsessed with it but when I stroked all the bags in Selfridges (very slight exaggeration) I became obsessed with one I probably wouldn't have considered online.

Still saving / dreaming though...

I have numerous Louis Vuitton new and vintage and they are fabulous hard wearing bags but if your looking for classic timeless there are other bags that a £1000 could be spent on.

What do you have the moment?!

For example my staple bag is a Hermes Birkin or Kelly, you can pick up a Hermes Kelly for approx £2000 vintage or resale.

I'm like you I don't care if one thinks a Louis Vuitton looks cheap because there are lots of counterfeits around but Louis Vuitton speedy's and Neverfulls are around the £500 mark give or take and you could buy something much more fabulous such as vintage Chanel.

I have a few LV bags, not logoed ones. If someone knew their bags they would spot it, but most people don't.

I don't care if people think it is fake, why would I be bothered if someone thought I spent £1k on a bag or £50?

Some of my bags I have had for 20 years and they look new.

I've always loved bags and as my mum says it doesn't matter if you put on weight or lose it you won't out grow a bag I've only just started buying designer bags as my son is now in his teens and I've got more spare money(although I still have to save up)I bought a mulberry hobo in the sale online but I had tried it in a branch of John Lewis a few months before but I'm not willing to pay full price for one as the price increase on their products is daft and I would rather spent that on a more high end brand.if I have to try a bag it will mean going down to London as I live in notts and nowhere sells high end designer near by(not with a good selection)which is really frustrating I often go to meadow hall in Sheffield but they only had a small selection of mulberry and Vivienne Westwood.

You could get an early train down to London for the day? I'm sure some MNers would help you choose in Selfridges, they have pretty much all the high end brands and it's so much fun going in and taking your time trying them all out. Train might be £50 but a worthy investment.

I have quite a few LV bags, but I tend to buy second hand because I think they all look pretty awful new but they age really well. My absolute fave is the bucket m.louisvuitton.co.uk/mobile/eng_GB/Collections/Women/Handbags/products/Petit-Bucket-MONOGRAM-M42238
Tho mine's bigger than this.

I know LV bags are faked but this wouldn't stop me buying one. I'd know mine was real. I don't buy expensive bags for other people.

Looking at the dimensions the two you mentioned OP look tiny. I see the neverfull at work in Canary Wharf a lot. I was very tempted as I wanted a bag a laptop would go in. They are lovely. But I would have avoided the LV print. I have a wallet in epi leather in red. Much lovelier and less obvious.

I find the LV shop in Selfridges a bit daunting. Harrods is better for browsing I think. But it's definitely better to buy a big purchase like that in store rather than online. Buy a train ticket!

What about Manchester, would that be easier for you. There's a Selfridges/Harvey Nicks plus free standing shops. Or Leeds has a Harvey Nicks and a free standing LV.
