Good jewellery website?

I'm looking to update my jewellery from the mishmash of mostly costume pieces from when I was a teenager to proper grown-up jewellery. For the few proper pieces I have I shopped at the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, but I'm finding it hard to get there atm, and I've been trying to find time to make the trip for about a year now! Does anyone know of a website I can order through that combines quality and value like the Jewellery Quarter does? I'm after white gold, starting with just fairly simple studs for everyday wear (amber, tanzanite, pearl, emerald, garnet, moonstone, opal, topaz), may move on to the odd necklace/bracelet after that.

I don't know the Jewellery Quarter but have you looked at the Astley Clarke website? They have really pretty, desirable jewellery with semi-precious and precious stones.

Take some time and get ye to a jewellers.

If you want nice amber studs etc dont bother with a 'designer brand'. A name doesn't add anything. Just choose a style that you like.

Mrscumberbatch you're right, I'm not fussed about designer, probably prefer not anyway as I resent paying for nothing more than a name, since I'm only really after fairly plain studs, there's not much "designing" to go into them!

I've had a look at Silver By Mail. They do have a few white gold bits, though it's obviously not their focus. What I need is a White Gold By Mail site. :)

Amber would be tough to find with white gold. Largely because the stones aren't as high a premium.

If you can, I'd go for silver to go with your amber (or amethyst, marcasite etc any affordable semi-precious stones) and white gold for the tanzanite, emerald, sapphires etc. it'll open up your options design wise.

If you google Baltic amber you'll find literally hundreds of amber colour ways and styles. If you fancy a 2nd opinion price wise etc feel free to send me a pm.

For other stones.... Do you prefer a vintage style or a more modern up to date setting as most stores tend to do one or the other?

I love silver, actually prefer the tone of it to white gold, but my ears have gone ridiculously sensitive (get sore and pus-y now and again even though I haven't worn earrings for ages) so I don't know if they'll accept silver? I thought gold would be gentler on them, though I may be wrong?

Vintage or more modern, I have no idea. I'm not sure what either would look like tbh. I just know when I see it whether I like it or not! Sorry, not much help I know.

Monika Vinader is lovely - I have a light pink freshwater pearl necklace from there (a gift) but I would certainly shop there for myself. it goes with so many things, nicely packaged etc.

then update with whatever else you want to add. personally I don't like diamonds but have some studs from a local jewellers and some Theo Fennell white gold and diamond studs but like I say I'm not keen on them and I hardly wear them.

Tiffany do do overpriced jewellery but their occasional one offs (daisy earrings Paloma Picasso) in gold etc are nice for everyday. I order them from USA get delivered to friend and she ships to me.

White gold can be hard for rings as it’s often rhodium plated which can wear off leaving yellow underneath– I learnt this the hard way! - one is better off with sterling silver or finding a silversmith who’ll work with non-tarnish argentium silver (which is also less allergy prone)

If you got allergy sensitives you're best off finding an artisan silvers/goldmith who'll make you exactly what you want - they lurk a lot at galleries in the UK and online - google art galleries near you - the range is the main brands don't deviate from the standard offering. I can recommend Mike Gell in Hereford but there are plenty of others :)

I can recommend Gem Atelier. You can play around with stones and metals if you like any of their designs so you get exactly what you want. I just had some earrings made and was very pleased with them.

Thank you all. I've ordered a simple pair of ball studs in silver to test out my ears, then I will know whether I can go for silver from Silver By Mail or Gem Atelier or if not I'll try white gold from QP Jewellers, Silver By Mail or Gem Atelier. If white gold doesn't work, we're on the hunt for palladium. I've also found some lovely titanium pieces, really pretty and a bit different.
