Help me dress my 2 year old for 2 weddings on opposite sides of the world

We're off to Italy for a wedding at the end of this month and have another one in Australia at Christmas time. I'd love to dress my 2 year old DS in a lovely comfortable outfit which could potentially do both weddings but don't really know where to start. How would you dress/how have you dressed a toddler boy for weddings?
First one is northern Italy in three weeks time. The bride is not Italian and it's not a traditional Italian wedding - no church ceremony etc., more of a big casual-ish party lasting two days with lots of food. I'm guessing the weather will be a little warmer than here, although I haven't been before so don't really know.
The second wedding will be outdoors in Perth at Christmas. It's likely to be hot during the day (probably mid to high 30s) but really quite chilly once the sun goes down, especially as it wil be on the waterfront. This one is my sister's wedding, so DS will be in official photos as he is a MUCH adored nephew. I'd like him to look smart but still he comfortable running around. The bride says she doesn't mind what he wears (no colour schemes for example.)
Sorry for all the rambling - I really don't know how to even start thinking about what to dress him in and would be grateful for any suggestions.

I always go for smart short sleeved shirts and shorts for my boys. John Lewis have some fab ones and they also do lots of blazers jackets if you feel it's not quite smart enough.

Anything. Nice shirt and shorts. I personally don't like tots all trussed up.

If you try to go too smart he'll be uncomfortable and want to take it off. Shirt, shorts and waistcoat was acceptable to ds1 at that age!

Shirt and shorts for perth( which venue if you don't mind me asking?). Linen would be good as it will be coolish. Hat is an absolute must if you are outside. Christmas can be 40+ in perth. When you get to perth you can buy there from somewhere like pumpkin patch or David jones.

Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking light trousers and maybe a bright Boden shirt for Italy, but I might have to go with something else for Perth.
Crutchlow35 it's at Matilda Bay - will be stunning if it's a lovely still evening! (I'm from Perth, by the way -you too?)

No but used to live there! I feel daft for the heat and hat lecture now!

No worries! It's all good advice and what I would tell an unsuspecting Pom too ;)
