So are colours a real thing, and if so, where do you find out which suits you?

I thought it was a Bridget Jones joke, but I see a lot if references to colour on here. I don't know the categories, but someone has just said they're deep autumn. Info please!

Yes colours are a thing INeed Grin You can get them done by House of Colour or Colour Me Beautiful. I only know about HoC but they tell you whether you're a summer, spring, autumn or winter and give you swatches of coloured fabric so you can buy clothes in 'your' colours. Worth doing if you're not sure what colours suit you or if you're not very confident about your clothes in general.

Well I had my colours done about 12 years ago and it changed my life! Basically I wore black all the time but it really didn't suit me. I was told I was a ' bright autumn', so greens, golds, brown and turquoise are great colours on me. It took a while but now I have a fabulous wardrobe where everything matches and people often tell me how great I look! It also saves a lot of time and money to go into a shop and know exactly what colours suit me

There are different ways of analysing colours, one uses the 4 seasons, the other, which Colour me Beautiful uses, talks about warm, cool, clear etc. You can get books about it and analyse it yourself but I found it really helpful having an objective eye on me. They also give you a swatch which you can take with you when you go shopping until you feel confident enough about what works

Hope that helps!

That really does, thanks. What about hair? A sausage-fingered colourist ruined my highlights in January, and it's now a boring brown which doesn't really suit me, in a fourth attempt to hide the damage Shock. Should I wait until I can get it highlighted back to normal or can the work around it?

If your hair is dyed they just cover it up while they're working out your colours, and give advice on the hair colours that will suit you best. I had highlights when I went which didn't suit me at all, because it turned out I am a winter and need to stick to my natural dark, cool-toned hair.

Your colours are mainly based on your skin tone anyway, which is why it's quite hard to work them out yourself I think. You can't just say 'I've got honey blonde hair and blue eyes, therefore I'm a spring'.

Well as long as u can cope with having to sit in front of a mirror with NO MAKE UP on for an hour with lots of different coloured scarves being draped over you and being told everything you are wearing is wrong, then go for it! Seriously I felt a bit traumatised after my session and was really reluctant to give up my black but now I'm really grateful for the experience...
