My last great purchase was a pair of black skinny jeans they were only £14 from asda but are a great fit and I can dress them up or down

Today I'm in them with a pale pink tshirt grey and white scarf and little black cardigan

Get yourself a selection of scarves from primark and wear with a plain top, jeans or leggings. Pay extra attention to hair and makeup and perhaps a selection of nail varnishes. I'm trying to move away from too much black and mainly wear, navy, grey, khaki, white, and let the scarves add colour.

I love love black, but good idea about scarves.I was looking for some advice about how many tops/trousers should I get,and which colours to make easier to put together outfits that look decent/casual but put together....not sure I'm making much sense lol!

IMO/experience, navy and white always look chic and put together (to be honest, I think all-over-black rarely does, unless it's expensive black!).

Only you can judge how many you'll need, and of what exactly. If it were me starting again and putting together a capsule wardrobe for £70' I'd concentrate on finding a great pair of really flattering jeans, a couple of stretchy t-shirt style tops that can be dressed up with jewellery/scarves, a cream/beige cardigan (like a twinset style one - I have one and it's incredible how useful it is), some leggings and a tunic-style dress that can also be dressed up or down. I'd need much more than that, to be honest, but if your budget is £70 then that's what I'd focus on. I'd look in M&S, Dotty Perkins and Debenhams. Good luck!

Debenhams have a sale on at the moment so it's worth looking there.

Also, buy for your shape, not because its trendy. You can always accecorise with scarves etc to bring it up to date.
