Wardrobe woes....

crushedintherush · 24/02/2013 15:46

I am trying to sort out my wardrobes once and for all. Aarggh.

I have made one wardrobe my midweek wardrobe, work clothes, and clothes I wear indoors eg tracky bottoms, leggings and sloppy old-ish tops, plus nightwear. It's the easiest wardrobe to get to, if you will, so thats why I put these clothes together.

And in the other wardrobe which is now my weekend wardrobe, I have my smart/casual and smart clothes for going out, plus summer essentials.

Haven't started on the shoes yet.......Hmm

I have been ruthless and thrown a lot of stuff out, but I have come across a grey area.

1 There are some nice tops that I haven't worn for at least 2 years, yet are in good condition, just out of fashion. Should I just relegate them to indoor wear?

2 I also need ideas for a capsule wardrobe, clothes I can wear for going out at the last minute for lunch, or the cinema. I'm trying to keep my weekend wardrobe less cluttered. Ideas for jackets, pants, boots, tops, maybe a dress or 2, would be appreciated.

I am 5ft 4, and weigh around 10 stone. Please help Smile

Oh, and my budget is around £150-200 ish. Any shop is fine, I'm a bit bigger up top than below and bit of belly which I am trying to slim down. I'll shut up now..

Lunch/cinema - a couple of pairs of skinnies / a biker jacket or blazer / ankle boots / plain jersey dresses to wear in different ways / a jersey midi or maxi skirt?

Thanks remus. I'm one of those people who cannot put outfits together at all.

I buy a top here, a pair of jeans there, rather than think of head to foot in one go, but I need to start, as dh is getting mighty fed up of ironing loads of stuff un-necessarily (he says).

I see his point. I need less clothes but with more style, so I can chop and change. I'm also 47, but don't necessarily want to dress to my age group, just want to look smart effortlessly.

Am I asking too much?

I used to buy things adhoc but I think a lot more about what I actually need and will now only buy something if it's going to fit in with there's too my wardrobe.

Do you actually need new weekend clothes? What do you have in your wardrobe already?

For the tops, how out of fashion are they? Do they fit well and suit you? If so is there anything you can do to make them look more on trend? Adding accessories for example?

Hi, queen, yes, I do need weekend clothes
I need clothes for during the day leading into the evening. I frequently go on a day out with friends/dh, for example, doing a bit of shopping/chilling, then having a meal later. Having been thinking about it more, some floaty feminine tops with jeans and nice jacket would be nice. Bit funny about shoes, my feet are not good, always seem to wear boots. And they have to be comfortable. I wear M&S footglove boots.

I tend to wear safe options, like black or blue jeans, black boots, t.shirt or top and black coat that I've had for donkeys years. Its still fashionable but a bit overworn. If its not that coat, its my cream zipped puffa jacket that is serviceable when shopping -zips for purse/phone/keys.

I've had another look at the tops and decided to put them into the 'at home/workwear' wardrobe, they're fine for the house with tracky's but not going out. They've replaced a few of my slightly tattier tops so a bit better in that department Smile

Let's help you go shopping then Grin!

Are you on Pinterest? It's a great way of looking at different styles and working out what kind of things you may like to buy. For example here is one of my [[

What colours do you like?

Have a look at this blog [http://www.puttingmetogether.com/2013/02/wardrobe-from-scratch-part-4-starter.html putting me together]] - she gives great advice about mixing clothes as well as realistic examples.

I also second Pinterest. Start pinning outfits you like and then have a look to see if any themes keep being repeated.

Another vote here for pinning looks - it has made me realise that a lot of my clothes are absolutely fine and what is often missing are the finishing touches especially nice shoes, jewellery, doing hair a little bit differently, different nail polish etc. And if you work all week then in terms of smart/casual at the weekend you only really need 2/3 outfits.

My whole wardrobe is based around blue jeans ( look at my Pinterest ) and black bottoms. Just choose a base colour ( grey,navy,camel,black,etc...) and get everything to go with that colour. Don't buy random items to start off with at least.
You can make cheaper things (H and M,Matalan,DP etc) look expensive with well chosen accessories.

Hmm.....not the best shopping trip in terms of what I actually was supposed to be looking for.
Forgot to make a list, so that didn't help.....

Here goes....see what you think, everybody ...this is what I bought.

Jeans (dark blue, sexy bootleg, not sure of the skinnies just yet).

Navy patterned top to go with jeans, smart but casual.

Black and white sleeveless top.

Black jacket, smart double breasted. Not lightweight for spring, but for this weather as its still bloody freezing, and I needed one.

Also bought navy sleeveless top with a little lace detail, would look nice with the jeans, I think, when the weather heats up. That'll look nice also with white pants in the summer..

No footwear though yet, and still umm-ing about the skinnies..

Maybe a shopping trip part 2....
Will make a list. This time.
