How do you choose the right lip colour?

I've bought a few different lipsticks from boots but when I get home and put them on they're never quite right colourwise. How do you know what colours will suit you? I find they often look very different on the lips to in the tube.
I have olivey skin, brown eyes and brown hair with a few highlights. I want a nice everyday lipstick for work. Any ideas what might suit me? Thanks

I am going to be no help at all, but I have olive skin, hazel eyes and brown hair so I am hoping someone will come along and answer you Grin

The most flattering colour is meant to be one that matches the inside of your lips...

Pull your bottom lip down and out until you see the slightly darker wetter fleshy bit (ew that sounds gross)

Match the colour to that for a natural look.

With your colouring I would try a nude beige or darkish taupe pink for a day-to-day lippie.

Go to make up counters, ask if they can put a little bit in a sample pot, and then try them on in the daylight and under lightbulbs as they'll look totally different under the lights.

Look at Bobbi Brown - they do loads of colours that should suit your colouring in different formulas. More expensive than most Boots brands but if you find the right lipstick you'll use it all rather than try it a few times then consign it to the back of the make up bag (I have about three billion lippies...). I think there is one called Taffeta or Chiffon that would look good on you.

If you want something brighter I think you could get away with a darkish scarlet red too but that's probably more a going-out look
