Did someone make a mistake here?

DH got me a coatigan for Christmas. It was too big, so I went in to exchange it for a smaller size [feelgood emotion]. The item cost £75 but had since gone on sale for £45 and they told me I could choose something else to make up the difference. So I got £30 worth of extra stuff in the sale. I chose a lovely big handbag and 3 pairs of tights... I added up the full price, presale, and it's worth £63!! (ok, I had an extra £1.50 to pay). It was a lovely surprise, and I'm happy with what I chose, but feel a little guilty since I got home with the extra loot....has the sales assistant made a big mistake here? Surely this can't be the norm for a direct exchange? Anyone else had this happen?

She's refunded you the returned item at full price but allowed you to replace it with items at sale price, which is correct. . I don't think she's made a mistake - if you'd got your money back, walked out the door, walked back in and then bought those sale items you'd ha e made the same saving.

Wow, sure it's not a mistake but never heard of a shop doing that before. What a nice treat :) Where was it from?

If you go in Gap with an item that you are keeping but that is now in the sale and present the original full price recipe they will refund you the difference! Was it Gap you were in?

That sounds right. If you can prove it was bought at full price (and are within the refund period) you deserve the full price (or goods to the equivalent) in return.

I did it yesterday with a Mulberry holdall i bought in Selfridges for DH which was 40% off on the Mulberry website. Selfridges were about to reduce it by the same amount so gave me back the discount. Very happy to get the difference back Xmas Grin!

It was monsoon. They wouldn't give a gift voucher with the difference, or cash, it had to be something chosen from the store there and then. Might use this trick to my advantage again then Wink
