How dressy is a cocktail bar nowadays?

For my 40th birthday we are staying at Claridges. The plan is to have afternoon tea and swan around in the cocktail bar for the evening. Can I wear a sparkly dress or will I look a nob?

I have had afternoon tea at Claridges, but not cocktails. I would say you would definitely not feel a nob in a sparkly dress, its a lovely hotel (with gorgeous loos!) I'm sure you will have a fab time, I'm very envious!

I was a bit baffled by this thread title - thought it would be someone worried about being underdressed, not overdressed! No, you wont feel a nob in the Claridges cocktail bar in a sparkly dress - go for it!

Personally I wouldn't go too ott. Claridge's is actually pretty laid back - and people don't get hugely dressed up - especially in the day time.

But - if you love the dress, then wear what you feel great in. I hate standing out, so would be too scared!

Have a fab time - it's a great place to have a special day. V jealous!
