Danefae coat - midseason or winter version?

I was all set to buy this coat (hope link works am on iPad and it is being very annoying)

But then I saw that there is a lovely (possibly nicer?) midseason version and I wondered if that might be better suited to London winters than the winter version.

Anyone got one..? Will I be too hot in the winter version or too cold in the mid season?

I have both. Midseason is good for summer, fall and spring. Winter is for winter proper, temperatures +5C....-5 C; much too warm for above +10C temperatures.

The difference is the padding. The winter coat is padded inside - not very bulky, but warm enough. The midseason coat is just the outer coat material plus lining material. Watertight and windproof, but not as warm as a wool coat - more like a trench. You can make the midseason coat warmer by wearing a close-fitting knit sweater underneath.

Thank you! So what we are saying is I need both but I think I need a warmer one more as I already have more trench-weight coats and jackets. Useful, thank you.

That's the beauty of living in the UK - we can get away with a trenchcoat style coat with warm layers underneath! Although I too prefer to have one of each and have done exactly this with a different brand (Didriksons)...

Shrew I spend some of my winters further north (somewhere fur coats worn with woolen layers underneath are a necessity in midwinter - it got down to windy -20 C last year), so I really needed the winter Danefae and have used it a lot during spring and fall. It's brilliant for near-zero weather when wet snow is falling. But yes, my Aigle Fetching is about the same weight and thickness than the midseason Danefae. The winter coat is not bulky like down coats, but it keeps you snug and warm. And unlike proper raincoats, it's not sweaty - you don't even notice that it's waterproof, but when it starts raining, you stay dry and warm.

DonaAna I seem to remember you mentioning these coats before - and for some reason I think you said the sleeves are long? Am I dreaming? I am 5ft 3, size 8-10. Want something warm & waterproof and knee length

I like the blue red minidot the OP mentioned, but I think the Terry would suit me more - do you know this coat at all? thanks

also, any idea on whether I would need an XS or an S? I have quite narrow shoulders, small waist but larger bottom

I have two versions of the Else coat. Sleeves are long. I'm 5'8" and on a significantly shorter friend the proportions were not as good as on me. Sizing - true to size or even snug. I'm 10-12 and wear a M. Perfect for pears as the coat is A-line. But sorry, have no experience of the Terry.
