You can get silk or merino wool.

Hi just received thermals from M and S they are a mixture of polyester viscose and elastane, I bought them in various colours after reading the fab reviews so am hoping they will do the dual job of being warm and making great t-shirts but am not sure how breathable they will be, but they are well made and great for layering.Lovely

I wear merino layers from either Icebreaker or Drizabone. They come in different weights (I think 320gsm is the heaviest and 120 the lightest.....but I could be wrong!). Both brands can be expensive but TK Maxx often stocks both and they are well worth the money.
