Zillioneth thread on the perfect winter jacket

Okay, it has been done before, I'm guilty of such a thread just last week or the week before but I'm sooo frustrated just now!

I need a jacket to see me through autumn - winter - early spring. Waterproof, hooded, warm but not down-filled and padded.

I found it in this.

Except it's nothing special on. The drawcord on the waist only pulls in the inner layer of fabric so whilst it feels fitted, the outer fabric doesn't change shape (as per the photo). Plain and unadorned can be good but it does nothing for this little number. Have sought opinion of others - looks like something I could buy for £20 in local farmshop was one remark Hmm.

But it meets all my criteria. Perfectly. Yet I don't like it enough to spend £200 on it. So, where can I find something similar but a tad nicer and more shapely??

I don't want an outdoor shop (ie Berghaus etc) jacket in bright colours. This one is for school runs and town and walks when the rain is pouring down but I still want it to look good with a handbag flung over my shoulder.

Now, I shall go, fill out the returns form and tape up the box. Sad

How about Superdry?

I know the brand isn't for everyone but I think they look cool and cosy Smile.

I'd be happy with one.

How about North Face?

I have a fab black coat similar to this one which nips in really nicely at the waist and I always feel stylish but cosy in it.
