Soft white patch on toenail after using nail varnish, ick

Starting to wear varnish on toenails again after the winter, but have a soft flaky white patch on my R big toenail. Worse when nails have been painted. Not on any other toes. Is this a fungal thing? How to get rid? Don't want to have bare toes. Could put on a base coat, I suppose, which would help, but would rather get rid of it altogether. Any ideas of what may help? Thx.

Ive got this too - its prob a fungal infection and I saw some stuff behind the counter at Boots the other day to sort it - like a pen type thingy.

The only thing that helped mine was totally ditching the nail polish until it had grown out.. the anti fungal stuff didn't work for me. If you just keep painting over it it will get worse:(

I'm a podiatrist, I had this years ago.

I left the varnish off until it grew out and I havent had it again.

Always give your nails two days to dry out inbetween varnishing.

But toes always look better painted!! [whines]. Have tried some athletes foot cream in the interim (fungus schmungus). Will leave them bare as long as poss.
