Sites for unusual/one-off jewellery?

I desperately need want a really unusual/one-off type modern-but-a-bit-gothic type necklace, preferably a really big one. I'm looking for something a bit tough and contemporary but sort of beautiful and Victoriany too. Essentially I am looking for the jewellery version of the moon on a stick.

Can any of the MN oracles recommend a website/store? I have been through Etsy and it's so HUGE I am struggling.

I adore this woman's stuff, but can't afford it (budget up to about £50??)

Folksy seems to be full of teenagers stringing beads. BORING!

urban outfitters seems to be a poile o'shite

the outnet has crap plastic tat for £150 and I haven't got 'mug' written across my forehead

HELP!

Ooo thanks you guys....jewellery out of forks! Amaze!

That boticca site is a farking dream. When my boat comes in and DH gets his overtime paid I'm going to be all over that like a cheap suit

Jcee you are plainly psychic - I was looking at that very seller...I do really like that stuff but I think it's too steampunky and cool. My clothes are quite sort of ladylike and vintagey which is why I favour this tougher jewellery, to shake it up a bit, but if I go TOO far into steampunk/contemporary it's too much of a contrast IYSWIM

In my head there is somewhere a kind of hammered silver collar thing for £50 but I think that's asking too much...

Scarlett whereabouts in the country are you?

There is an excellent art gallery in Brackley, Northamptonshire called Rowan's Gallery here . They sell handmade jewellery and have a lovely selection of the kind of thing you are after. The artist who makes the silver jewellery also undertakes commissions. You can't buy online now but if you are interested in seeing the kind of thing she makes then either email or call Sally - the gallery owner - to discuss. I am sure she would be happy to do do mail order.

The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists has a 3 floor gallery near central Birmingham. The top two floor are an ever changing array of local painters, but the ground floor always has the most amazing selection of shows from local jeweller in the jewellery quarter.

The school of jewellery is up the road, and a lot of graduates show their work here. Stuff I see here turns up in the fashion pages 3 years later. This place is an absolute incubator for young jewellery designers. And because it is a gallery, and the pieces are all one off, you get to take advantage of the 0% own art financing deals set up by the arts council. Yay!
