Growing out short hair <bor-iiiing)

I had a very short, graduated bob (think Danni Minogue last year). I am bored to tears with it. It has grown long enough to tie back into a stubby little ponytail now. Looks awful but I love having hair I can get off my face when doing housework or at the gym or whatever. So, gonna grow it a bit - not long, but maybe just above shoulder. But what style? I am mid thirties, a brunette with auburnish undertones and medium-thick straight hair. I want to look stylish, not like I shop in Asda
